When do you switch to maternity jeans

I'm only 7 weeks but I have put on 4lbs due to constant snacking trying to keep nausea at bay.

Do I buy bigger jeans or mat jeans? Seems a bit daft switching to mat jeans if I'm not showing though?

Feel like I'm tempting fate buying them this early. Or is it normal?

That in-between stage, I'd go for leggings/ other non jeans options tbh.

If they're comfortable, why not? Try some different styles - i remember I had one pair that were perfect from about 10-25 weeks, then another style that worked well when I had a much bigger bump (same size, just different styles).

I found that bloating made me switch to maternity jeans at about 14 weeks. I didn't have a bump (24 weeks today and still not noticeably pregnant where my belly is concerned) but it was way comfier!

As soon as you can.

I still miss my over the bump maternity jeans and my kids are teenagers now. They were so warm and comfortable. Should have kept them!

I switched around the time of the 12 week scan due to the bloating, anything at all on my bump felt tight and uncomfortable so even the maternity jeans, I wore with the belly band pulled down.

36 weeks now and I still wear them the same way. I can't stand anything tight over my bump.

I switched at around 12 weeks, I didn't have a bump but my stomach was just bigger all over and anything tight made me feel (even more) sick. I remember spending a whole day at work with my jeans button undone under my top and deciding that was it, maternity jeans or leggings only. By the end of the pregnancy even jeans were far too uncomfy, I lived in leggings and loose dresses.

If you need bigger jeans you may as well get maternity ones - it won't affect the outcome of the pregnancy, and presumably even if this one doesn't stick, you'll try again. You might find they're too loose though as the over bump ones really need a bump to keep them up, so maybe order some in the next size up as well... they'll probably be useful for when you're post-partum but your bump hasn't gone down fully yet. Mine took about four months, even though I weighed less than when I got pregnant due to how sick I was.

Never did, I wore my regular jeans all the way until birth (used the hair bobble trick after about 37 weeks)

But it really doesn’t matter, if you are comfortable you can wear whatever at any stage, nobody is judging - wear them if you are happier in them.

DappledThings · 03/03/2025 09:49

I went on holiday at 24 weeks for a week. On the flight out jeans were fine. Put them back on a week later to fly home and they wouldn't do up. So I guess around then!

UncharteredWaters · 03/03/2025 09:50

Wore my own jeans to the hospital to deliver. You do what’s comfortable for you!

StamppotAndGravy · 03/03/2025 09:59

I switched at about 14 weeks, but they didn't stay up because there's no waist band. I had a perma-wedgy until about 18 weeks. They stay up by going over your bump

Negangirlxx · 03/03/2025 10:18

From 6 weeks onwards, I switched to normal leggings, just in a bigger size, then dresses (as it was summer), then maternity leggings for the last month or so. Didn’t bother with jeans at all. Far too uncomfortable for pregnancy.

I’m 17 weeks and bought some jeans with a huge elasticated waist from primark whilst looking for maternity clothes. I can still fit into my normal jeans (just) but hate the feeling of them being tight around my stomach. I don’t normally shop at primark, but have to admit I’m pretty pleased with them. Between saving for maternity leave and buying stuff for the baby I’m pleased to snag a bargain!! Hoping I’ll be able to wear them post partum too.

ArabellaWeird · 03/03/2025 10:59

When you can't do your regular jeans up, it's only going one way from that point!

AudreyJL · 03/03/2025 14:48

Switched at 6 weeks. The bloating was intense and I found maternity jeans so much comfier

I haven’t found any comfortable jeans to be honest. Leggings paired with nice cardigans and tops have been my go to.

I moved to maternity pants as soon as my regular ones felt uncomfortable. With my first that was much later, but it was around 8-10 weeks with my second. There was enough going on with morning sickness to have uncomfortable clothing to contend with too! 🤣
