Hiya,

I will be 20 weeks gone next week but i still havent told my work yet and im shitting it to be honest!!

Ive only been there just about 3 months (my probation ends in literally 2 weeks) but i really am at the point where i cant hide it anymore and i need to tell my boss!

BUT im a bit of a woose and im not sure i have the guts to tell her as she can come accross a bit 'too preoccupied' and stressed out sometimes

ANY advice at all welcome!!

I just dont no what to do but im trying to gear myself up for telling them tomorrow!

Well done Helen - you've done the right thing. Glad it went well and now you look honest and open at least! Good luck with the probation, you will be in a good position having told them as you have clear rights. Whereas if you hadn't told them, and they knew, you would've been much worse off!

Actually there is an obligation to tell your employer around basically 25 weeks if you want maternity rights and all that and they do perform a risk assessment. I do a desk job and this involved checking I was sitting ok, taking breaks etc - pretty minor stuff but there are a few hoops to jump through.

if you have had any one to ones or appraisals during your time there and they have all been positive ones, then for your workplace to not keep you on after your probation would be a blatant case of discrimination, for which you could take action. if you have had none on the other hand, then i wouldnt take the chance, hold out for the next two weeks, they cannot say anything as you are not legally obliged to inform them until 15 wks b4 your edd. i also found out i was preg with db3 during the last leg of my probation which was 6 months, i had been to 3 appraisals/one to ones in that time which had all been positive, so was happy to tell them, are you a member of a union by the way, if not its a good idea to be with one, just incase for the future they are a great and invaluable source of strength.
