Pilates in Pregnancy

Hey

Recently found out I’m pregnant with #2. Only 5 weeks. I’ve done Pilates for 8 months and go with a friend. I don’t want to tell anyone about the pregnancy until we’ve told our DD. Can I still do Pilates or am I better giving it a miss?

You'll be fine doing pilates in the early stages. But when belly gets a big bigger and the muscles seperate I'd start finding something else to do as pilates has too much heavy core work. Unless your instructor can give you alternatives safe for further in pregnancy (I say this a a yogi and strength trainer so not sure how many variables are in pilates)

I did Pilates in both pregnancies. Once, it was a specific pregnancy Pilates class. Second time it was a general class, and the instructor knew I was pregnant and gave me alternative moves when necessary.

I also went to a post partum Pilates class, where the babies all lay on mats in the middle of the circle of mums.

The studio I go to said I was fine to carry on until 18 weeks and then I had to switch to specific pregnancy classes, but that was down to their specific insurance so it probably varies studio to studio. Would you definitely not feel comfortable emailing your instructor to let them know, but ask them not to say anything that will make it obvious to your friend?

That’s reassuring. Thanks everyone 😊 yeah my instructor used to do postnatal classes. I think I’ll just email and ask her not to drop me in it! Thanks.
