So two weeks ago I was thinking about joining Slimming World as, since the summer, I have gained probably half a stone from eating rubbish. I have very little time for exercise which obviously hasn't helped either.

I was already more than half a stone overweight before the start of the summer but its just gotten worse and worse.

I eat pretty well throughout the day, but I binge at night, mostly coming up to my period. If I didn't binge at night and just ate something decent to satiate the hunger I would probably lose a bit of weight...

This week I discovered I was pregnant - beyond delighted - and I'm wondering what quantity of calories ought i to eat in the first trimester, I wish I could lose some of this belly fat but I guess I can't have any kind of a calorie deficit or it would hinder the baby's growth? I'm 5 weeks currently.

A calorie deficit would not hinder the baby’s growth at this stage. The baby will take whatever it needs from you whether you eat or not.

I completely lost my appetite for the first 17 weeks of my pregnancy. It has only just returned now at 18 weeks. I am 3kg lighter than I was pre pregnancy. Some days I would barely manage half a meal and my baby measured fine at all my scans.

You do not need to eat more so don’t worry too much.

just make sure you take your folic acid and vitamins!

congrats :)

Congratulations.

You may be one of the lucky ones who don't experience morning sickness or nausea but for the majority of women, the first trimester is just about survival. Plans go out the window.

With my first it kicked in at 7 weeks, with my second it was earlier at 5.5 weeks and more severe.
Both times I've actually lost weight in the first trimester (not intentional).

I also lost weight in the first trimester due to food aversions & nausea.
I lost nearly 3kg and the only weight I've put on so far is the weight of the baby. I am now in 3rd trimester.
Congratulations 🙂

Congratulations! If you haven't got morning sickness or aversions, I'd just try to eat balanced meals and see how you get on.

My pre-baby BMI was in the obese category and I've only put on a couple of pounds in the last couple of weeks (I'm 23+6). I lost weight in first trimester just through morning sickness and aversions, basically. I've been eating normally since about 19 weeks - with occasional days where my sickness pops up - so think the extra weight is baby.

Slimming world can be helpful but following the plan might be difficult when you're pregnant. I really struggled to eat fruit and veg for that first trimester and pretty much the only thing I could eat was bread, noodles, pasta, mangoes. You may end up finding you basically use all your syns just trying to make sure you get some food in you! Good luck 😊
