Boots vs Pregnacare Max Prenatals

Hi all, I'm 17 weeks pregnant and have been taking the Pregnacare Max supplements which have folic acid, vitamin D, omega 3, plus other vitamins. However, it makes me gag and I've been struggling to keep it down. At my appointment today, my midwife recommended taking the plain Boots folic acid + vitamin D supplements. The Boots supplement is one tiny tablet compared to the 3 Pregnacare Max ones (2 folic acid + 1 omega3), which seems odd.
Curious if anyone's had a similar experience? Did anyone take the Boots one and found it to work fine?

Pregnacare is just good marketing of bog standard multi vitamins. Total waste of money. Just buy a regular own brand multi vit, checking it doesn't have vit A added if you want to, but folic acid and vit d is all that is recommended in pregnancy.

I found the Pregnacare Max made me much more sick and ended up back on the cheap Boots one I'd been taking pre-pregnancy. I got the Pregnacare Max because I preferred the idea of the more bio-available methyl folate to folic acid, but it doesn't matter how bio-available a vitamin is if you just throw it back up. If I have another I might look for just a vitamin D/ methyl folate supplement without anything else in, but I couldn't face trialling more vitamins in the first trimester! I'm 37 weeks now and the baby seems perfectly healthy with no signs of any neural tube defects.

More expensive vitamins don't tend to be any better than own brand. They all have to conform to the same standards. It's usually just marketing driving up the price. Boots have their own pregnancy supplement with all the usual things in it, not just the vit d folic acid one your midwife mentioned. Its one pill, I stayed on that for my whole pregnancy and tolerated it just fine.

@SErunner Thank so much you for sharing your perspective! I'll definitely look into regular multivitamins.

@horchatatresleches - Thank you so much for sharing your personal experience. I can relate to the struggle with nausea, and it's valuable to hear that the cheaper Boots option worked well for you. Glad to hear your pregnancy is progressing well and the baby is healthy :)
