Position of uterus at 18 weeks

This is more just curiosity, but after doing some googling I'm wondering if this is normal?

I had a scan yesterday at 18w2d, and she said my baby is 21cm and 230grams, which seems disproportionately big for the age? Is it likely the measurements would be off? And when she was doing the scan she had the wand about an inch above my belly button and we saw the head. Is it really possible that by 18 weeks my uterus would already be so high up? Everything I've read says the uterus is a few inches below the belly button at this stage.

Just curious, if anyone else had this!

Sounds like the right size, it will be from head to heel x

If there was anything concerning you'd have been told

What makes you say it’s disproportionately big? Every app out there would indicate these are the correct measurements for your gestation?

@Lulu89x * What makes you say it’s disproportionately big? Every app out there would indicate these are the correct measurements for your gestation?*

Everything I looked at yesterday said baby should be 14cm, including the NHS and Mayo clinic site! And that they should weigh 190gr.

But now when I googled again this morning, I'm finding other sites (babycenter) that says baby should be 22.2cm and 223gr, which does indeed match up perfectly! That's super strange, I literally was not getting these results yesterday. Bizarre!

True, it must be! Everything I was googling yesterday was showing me that the average length was 14cm and weight 190gr, which was making me really curious! For some reason now today the top result is some baby centre site that says the baby's measurements should be 22.2cm and 223g which is bang on! Bloody internet! 😂

The best advice I ever got about pregnancy was to step away from Google - otherwise you're in for a very long and stressful 9 months

ButchCassidysSundanceKid · 27/02/2025 06:41

I've just looked back on my pregnancy tracker app at 18 weeks and it said the length is on average 22.2cm and weight 223g (which I can see from your later update, yours does too). Not sure what sites you were looking at but I'd just stick to your app. Too many conflicting sources of info on the internet. I'd also advise trusting the judgment of medical professionals over online content, which can be posted by anyone!

mushroomushroom · 27/02/2025 07:20

@ButchCassidysSundanceKid it was the NHS and Mayo Clinic sites 🥲

The app I have on my phone doesn't give baby dimensions, it just says what size of fruit it is, it's the PAL support app.

In any case, I'm glad to know that Id been looking at crown-rump length when mine was top to toe length :)

Most of the time I'm quite good for that! This is what I get for slipping up though 😂😂

Lol glad you’ve cleared it up. Google can be your enemy during pregnancy. I’m 18 weeks in now and I give myself a scare at least once a day
