Change of hours at work

Not sure if this is the right place to post.
I'm pregnant at the moment but struggling with my hours at work. I'm employed on a night shift role with condensed hours. So basically work a week then off.

When I asked about changing my shifts, still nights but either a change of rota or possibly cutting back some hours. They have said they can't accommodate this and said they would put me on days. The issue is if I change to days I go from a 30/40 min commute to almost 2 hrs either way. I also hate my workplace in the day so doing this would hate me hate work. It's something to consider though, but would have to cut my hours or get shifts that means I miss rush hour. My biggest worry though is the cut in my salary. Currently I get a shift allowance 35% of my salary. Would I lose this if I agreed to the days and they could accommodate my need for reduced hours or out of rush hour shifts?

I think these are questions you’d be best to have with your boss. Just ask for a meeting to talk through ideas to see what will work for you and what will work for the company.

Sadly they may not be able to give you the hours and duties you request but try to make reasonable adjustments.
I needed adjustments to my job when I was pregnant, I sat with my boss and completed a risk assessment. We talked through everything I needed and what the employer needed and the risk assessment was sent to hr. After a meeting between my boss and hr, I was given a different role until my maternity leave and when I returned to work I returned to my main job- I had this put into writing to ensure I wasn’t sent elsewhere.

If you’re used to working nights and night shift get a higher rate of pay then I imagine they won’t accommodate this for day shift. They may be flexible around starting and finishing times but be prepared for them to say no to this.

Yes I think you would 100% lose your 35% allowance if you switched to days. Yes, they could maybe give you shifts outside of rush hours but if that was an overall reduction in hours for the day shift then you would have a huge reduction in salary.

Can you stay nights but reduce your hours slightly?

Ah just re-read and they won't let you reduce night shift hours. Think you're stuffed then really.

I think I'm going to have to try and work what I am for now.

I will speak to them though about the shift allowance etc. I can cut back some hours every week and afford this but losing the shift allowance and then cutting hours would be too much. Even losing the shift allowance would be a struggle with my regular hours.

I think I need more of a plan of action before going back to them too. With various options for them to consider. I'll use our current rotas etc to make a case hopefully.
