I was prescribed Metformin for my pcos, started on 500mg which didn't help me.
Once I started on 750 twice a day, I started to loose weight and I luckily got pregnant.
My NHS board in the UK only used Metformin for diabetes, so it wasn't until I moved abroad that I got it, and help.
I was only ever told to diet & exercise.
I hope the Metformin helps you

I was privately prescribed by my ivf doctor during ivf and afterwards to help prevent miscarriage. My GP was happy to prescribe once the consultant had given me a private prescription. This was 16 years ago so thinking May have moved on.

I manage my PCOS through weight and maintaining a normal BMI.

That's great that you can manage it through your weight naturally.
Unfortunately for some types of pcos, it's very very difficult to lose weight, even with a healthy diet and exercise.
Sometimes medication is the only way to go, to help with hormones and insulin production.

Sadly Metformin did nothing for me except mess with my stomach. In the end, my doctor agreed to let me try clomid. But that was private. And I got pregnant on second cycle.

If I was doing it now, I'd go on wegovy or similar and lose the weight that way. However, in my case, being super thin never had any impact on my periods being more regular anyway. In fact, before I was diagjosed with PCOS, they thought that my irregular periods was because I was TOO thin. I managed my weight, somewhat, for years on the pill, but coming off it.... it all piledon.

I don’t struggle with my weight but have pcos & irregular cycles. I was diagnosed in December. Started metformin before Christmas & had a period 3 weeks later, and then 4 weeks after that I found out I was pregnant. Was also taking myo-inositol alongside the metformin.
So it’s definitely helped me. I started on 1 x 500mg tablet a day, but now take 3 a day and to continue on in pregnancy too. Good luck, I hope it works for you

Hey was given metformin for my pcos, have gotten pregnant and currently still taking metformin until 3 months- I've been told by my gynecologist. It helped me loose weight but I had to take the slow release as the normal metformin the side effects were awful
