My best friend is pregnant, she has missed two periods but never tested for pregnancy until today when it showed positive. She rung her gp asking for an early scan as she doesn't know how far along she is. The midwife told her that the NHS only offer 2 scans and therefore, if she has one now then she won't be able to have another one until 20 weeks. Is this all correct?

Yes, the NHS offer a 12 and 20 week scan. She does know how far along she is, she’s missed 2 periods and pregnancy is dated from last period. So she can count from the first day of her last period to now, that’s how far along she is.

No that’s not correct.
The NHS don’t offer early scans unless there is symptoms of a miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy, or in some trusts, a history of ectopic or multiple miscarriages.
She will still be offered the first trimester screening/dating scan at 12-13 weeks, even if she has an early scan.
Her best bet is to have a private scan to get a rough idea of dates.
