Advice ? Pregnancy please

  • hey so found out was pregnant couple of weeks ago , started to bleed so epu did scan and bloods , no sign of pregnancy in the womb even my lining . Hcg to check was rising and it was . 2 weeks later another ultrasound, this time was a 5 week sac no fetal pole as of yet . Had to had more bloods , levels are 569 at 5 weeks . Had a phone call from epu and been told pregnancy is none viable and to expect misscarrgie and bleeding . She was like sorry for telling you this over the phone. How are they certain ? To having nothing in my womb to 14 days later a sac , and the lady was sure she could see something in the sac but it was to early . Everything was progressing, now to have another blood test tomorrow and if rising another scan?! Like what ? The ultrasound lady said the good thing here is you’ve not had a miscarriage or eptopic I was so hopefull till that phone call , she said she’s just telling me what’s what so I no.. but then telling my they can’t be sure so more tests! Ok then so now im even more confused and this has been going on couple of weeks in the dark

Just to clarify my first lot of bloods was 81 , two days later 170 , then for a scan 13 days later ( yesterday ) & bloods now 569 . So with that gap my levels don't seemed to have doubled properly , sac was empty tech wasn't sure it could see a fetal pole but we could see like a white line ? But not fully so she couldn't say , then had that phone call to say none viable but need more test hcg to see if double again , not looking good , has anyone else been through this

Are you saying it took 13 days for your HCG to go from 170 to 569? If so that isn’t a good sign unfortunately. It should be doubling every 2 days or so. So after 13 days it should much much higher.
Obviously no one can say with certainty that you’ll miscarry. But the EPU are likely going by their knowledge and experience of similar cases.
How many weeks pregnant are you meant to be officially? (Ignoring the 5 week sac they could see). Do your dates match up to being 5 weeks pregnant?

I have had a few miscarriages. First one I had bleeding. Went to EPU and my HCG was doubling beautifully. But a scan showed a 5 week embryo. I should have been 7 weeks. A scan 2 weeks later showed a 5.4 embryo with weak heartbeat. They told me non viable pregnancy and it was. I miscarried a week after that.

Your HCG needs to be doubling every 48hrs (well, 70% increase in that time). If it was a viable pregnancy, your 170 should have then been above 10,000 13 days later. So your pregnancy is not viable and it sounds like it is resolving itself (as in, not ectopic and currently no need for medication or operation). I'm sorry this one didn't work out for you x

@Nextpain sorry it was 10 days gap not 13 but doubt that makes much difference, and im around 6 ish weeks , so thought my dates was off a week . But by my hcg levels doesn't seem good . Blush

@TheQuietestSpace yeah that seems to be the case , I was so hopeful ! Could explain the 4 days bleed I had around 2/3 weeks ago . If they double when I have my blood tests tomorrow I'm unsure what that means but outcome doesn't look great unfortunately, thankyou for your response x

You need to be realistic. They won't double tomorrow. This pregnancy has ended. They are retesting so that they can watch the HCG leave your system to reassure themselves and you that the pregnancy is resolving itself. I understand completely how hopeful you were but do not open yourself up to grief on grief by feeling there is any chance of good news tomorrow.

@TheQuietestSpace I suppose you are right ! Its just iv had different things said by different doctors and I suppose they can't tell me for sure untill they see hcg decline

This really hard OP, but in your shoes I'd be hoping for a quick miscarriage. HCG in healthy pregnancies never ever behaves like yours has. If the pregnancy carries on, it will still be non-viable, but you may end up having to decide which way to end it. It is better for it to resolve naturally and quickly.
I'm sorry.

@Nooa

Yeah that's what I'm hoping for , I feel now I'm not stuck in limbo and have an answer to what's what so hoping to move forward , thankyou for your reply x

The limbo is awful. I wasn't having my HCG monitored but in my previous pregnancy I had 3 scan over 3 weeks. The first was 10 days behind with no heartbeat. The second scan was 2 weeks later with a little growth not close to being consistent with a 2 week wait but no heartbeat. The first two scans were with the same sonographer and my epu has a policy that the loss is confirmed by 2 sonographer so a week later I had another scan with another sonographer and confirmed the loss. The limbo was hard but I did also appreciate them want to be sure before offering medication to bring about the miscarriage. As it happened it wasn't necessary for me and I started bleeding the night before the last scan and I passed the pregnancy the next day.

I've had two losses, the one above and heavy bleeding out of the blue. Neither were easy. They were different, the one above the limbo was hard and it felt more drawn out but by the time it was all confirmed and passed I had come to terms with it all. The first time was more intense but over a shorter time and it took a bit longer after the loss to process the end of the pregnancy. Feel what you feel, there are no right or wrong ways to feel or be.
