18 weeks - no bump or movement

Hi all, wondered if this can be normal? I’ve generally got a bit bloated / fatter, but no real bump (I can suck my tummy in if I try). I’m normally size 8 and average height (and was often bloated pre pregnancy).

No movement either - I’m hyper aware of every gurgle etc but imagine it’s just digestion! No distinct pops or flutters.

Would love to know if others have experienced similar and if all was well.

Size 8 and slim here. Bump came around 18-20 weeks with first baby. Didn’t feel kicks til 20. I think it’s just you have tight stomach muscles?

Haveiwon · 18/02/2025 12:08

Yep! Especially with first babies. With my first I was basically had a flat tummy until 24 weeks. At work, nobody could tell until I was 30 weeks. Then I exploded 😂 felt like I grew a massive bump overnight!

Movement started around week 22? But not every day until week 26. He was a massive baby when he came out, 4.3kg

I'm a petite size 8 and had no bump until 20 weeks. Even after this I could wear a baggy jumper and noone would know!
Also no kicks until after 20 weeks for me and it's not really like one day there is and one day there isn't, very gradual!
Speak to your midwife if you're worried of course.

First pregnancy that sounds fairly normal. You couldn't tell I was pregnant with my first at my 20 week scan. I think I popped somewhere between 20 and 26 weeks. Then was massive at 36 weeks.

Do you know where you placenta is? With my first, mine was at the front so I barely felt movement until I could see it well after 30 weeks.

Thanks everyone, all really good to know. My placenta is anterior which won’t be helping re movement. Sounds like I just need to be patient for another few weeks!

Yeah with #1 I was still in my size 27 jeans until week 20 when they got a bit tight. I didn't actually pop until I was about 30 weeks gone, I just looked like I'd been at the tacos.

Baby #2 was a different story though....

Cornishmumofone · 18/02/2025 13:52

I was a size 10 with an anterior placenta and didn't have a noticeable bump by my due date. I also never felt DD kick or move.

Babybaby2025 · 18/02/2025 13:54

Im 19 weeks, no bump yet, slightly firm bloated looking stomach but not a bump, and i think I felt my first kick yesterday but it was so tiny I could be wrong.

My midwife said anything from 17 weeks to 22 weeks is normal for first kicks, but her belief is that the majority of women thinking they are feeling it on the earlier end of that time are likely feeling wind / digestion as the babies limbs are just so small and light and they are so cushioned in there, that its quite unlikely to feel it earlier on.

sel2223 · 18/02/2025 22:29

I had an anterior placenta with my first and didn't feel any movements until i was 22/23 weeks - I also didn't have a proper unmistakable baby bump until the third trimester.

Second pregnancy and my placenta is posterior this time but it was still 20 weeks before I felt movements.

Anything between 16 and 24 weeks is considered normal.

Hi All

im 16+6 weeks pregnant with my first child and my symptoms have disappeared, I don’t feel pregnant. I have a slight bump but that’s it. Is this normal? I’m getting a bit of anxiety thinking somethings gone wrong.

EMary12345 · 22/02/2025 00:59

24 weeks to feel anything that I was sure was the baby with my 1st pregnancy- earlier with second because I knew what it felt like!
