Bleeding at 5w3d

Hi everyone,

I'm 5 weeks 3 days pregnant and when I went to the toilet earlier I noticed bright red blood, obviously it scared the life out of me. When I’m wiping now it’s mainly just brown, but I can’t help but feel like something is wrong. I’m so worried, I have my first NHS appointment at the hospital on 3rd March and I have a private scan booked for 2nd March. Praying everything is going to be ok, has anyone else had any bleeding?

Hi yeah I bled for about 6 days not heavy but enough to fill a pad I'm still testing positive after my bleed so doctors don't seem concerned so I take it it was just a bleed which apparently is more common than what I'd known I hope all goes well

Hi hun

I’ve had some brown spotting albeit I’m a week behind you and had the same with my previous pregnancy at 6 and 8 weeks and all was fine. It was usually brown and never enough to soak a pad though. I had a subchorionic hematoma which can cause a bit of bleeding as if fair common.

try to hang in there until your scan❤️ mine is in the 4th too it’s torture!! Sending hugs x

Hey there, I know how worrying this was. It happened to me in May at a similar point and I did lots of research. The reality is that it can go either way - it can be the start of a MC, equally it can be a bleed such a hematoma which doesn't impact the baby.

I was told to call back to my GP if I got clotting or enough to fill a pad - that did eventually happen along with very strong cramping and I did miscarry. However, others who commented on my post had similar but went on to not. Took a few weeks to test negative afterwards.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you - big clots, enough blood to fill a pad and / or strong cramps are the main warning signs I was given.

Thanks for the replies ladies, I’ve not really had anything since just a little bit of brown when wiping so hoping it’s nothing sinister and just normal 🤞🏼 if it does happen again though I think I will call the EPU just for my peace of mind, all of this worrying cannot be good for the baby 🫠
