Conjunctivitis in pregnancy

so I’m around 22 wks pregnant and seem to have developed conjunctivitis.
about 5 days ago when I woke up I had more sleep than usual but thought that was all it was. Next morning, woke up and my eyes were full of crust and goo so immediately thought oh great conjunctivitis!

but the thing is my eyes are totally fine during the day?! No watering or real redness so I thought maybe it’s viral then as I had seen something on an NHS trust website about it being viral if only goo in the morning and not throughout the day. I’ve had Bacterial before and it’s been so painful and disgusting.

so yeah long story short it’s 5 days later and my eyes are horrible upon waking but fine all day. Been cleaning with cooled boiled water.

anyone had this? I’ve heard mixed things about the optrex eye drops being safe in pregnancy and needing something from the dr? But also it seems mild…. just annoying in the morning when my eyes are glued together

Yeah I've just had it at 30 weeks and it was really annoying. It was after a cold so maybe viral. I think your immunity is just low in pregnancy. It went after a week or so and no one else got it.

I used optrex. No idea they weren't meant to be safe in pregnancy. It does say online the safety can't be guaranteed but then that probably means they just haven't tested them. I can't think that loads get in your bloodstream?!

I think it’s probably viral so don’t think drops would help it’s just the horrid crust and goo in the morning that’s throwing me!
