Hi all,

I am 36, son is 5 and I am pregnant with my second.

My first pregancy was all fine, and I gave birth in a freestanding midwife unit - all was fine, a fairly long labour but all was good (used hynobirthing breathing techniques & no pain relief), no complications. To put it into context, the freestanding midwife unit was probably about 20-30 mins from the closest hospital with a maternity unit - it's in the same city, just lots of traffic etc.

I did ask the midwife whether if I was in hospital and it had taken the same length of time would I have had to have any physcal intervention and she said probably yes. The clinical and hospital aspect freaks me out.

We have now moved city and the closest freestanding unit is around 20 mins from home (fine) and the hospital is around 20-25 mins (according to googlemaps), slightly more rural.

Anyway, I would still like to go here and I have researched statistics etc (age / second child / place of birth) and a FMU / second birth appears to be safer / less possible interventions etc... but my husband seems to be slightly more worried this time; not sure if it is my age / he is European and all births are clinical. His worrying is worrying me; and I think I just need some reassurance / experiences of similar age / location etc??

Thanks
