Ultrasound suggested I am less pregnant than I know I am. Is this a worry?

I am probably just being paranoid but I am beginning to worry after a early viability scan this morning.

I know when DH and I last had sex and when I ovulated (coincidentally there were on the same day ). Therefore I know I must be 8 weeks and 6 days pregnant. However, the scan suggested the baby is 8 weeks and 2 days. Now I know that theoretically sperm can live inside a woman for several days, but it seems unlikely that they lived inside me for 4 days post-ovulation and then I conceived.

Now I am worrying that they baby is small because it is not growing properly.

Does anyone have any wisdom to impart in this situation?

My understanding is not to be concerned with this and it should straighten itself out at your 12 week scan. Saying that, I am 35 weeks now and still working with 3 dates between 10 and 17 June!

I wouldn't worried about a difference of just four days . Scans are not 100% accurate, and babies do not all grow at exactly the same rate.

4 days isnt alot of difference, I was 100 sure that the dates i was given were wrong. Doesnt matter though baby will come when its ready not when a machine says it should

The measurements involved are so small that 4 days difference is really nothing.

They told me at the 12 week scan with DS2 that unless there was 7 days difference they don't bother to adjust the due date. Scans aren't an exact science.

If the doctors this morning aren't worried, you probably don't need to be either.

Congratulations on your pregnancy though!

4 days difference in growth is less than 1mm at this stage - error range on the measurement tool on the ultrasound unit is about 2mm. So not a problem.

Thanks everyone.

I know I am being a paranoid idiot, normally I would not have indulged myself, but when MN is there in front of you it is sooooo tempting to post every little parenting concern to seek views and comfort. And this time it worked because I got the comfort I needed .

Don't worry artichokes. I had a viability scan at 7 weeks and was told my dates were wrong and I was only 6 weeks. There was no way I was only 6 weeks as dh was away the week that would make me 6 weeks and also it would have meant that I got a positive hpt only 7 days after conception When I had a scan at 10 wks they said I was measuring exactly 10 wks which tied in with my dates. Good luck with your pregnancy.

I had my early scan on Tuesday and The Dr 9a very respected consultant so he informed me) said its very hard to tell at this stage. I was 6+^ on Tuesday and he said it looked like it was a 6-week embryo BUT all he wanted to see was a heart beat and said they would date me at 12 weeks- its just not accurate in the early stages. TBH all we could see was a white shape now and again with a flicker in the middle of it but when he moved the scanner it was gone!! literally, blink and ul miss it!!
