20 week rescan - couldn’t see one foot!

Hi all

First baby (as is probably obvious) and had my 20 week scan on Wednesday.

All looked good other than the sonographer having been unable to get an image of one of baby’s feet.

I have been sent for a rescan on Tuesday so I guess I’ll know more then but I’m feeling quite anxious that the foot will be missing!

Has anyone experienced anything similar and the rescan had good results and all was ok after all?

It’s going to be a long weekend worrying I think!

Not personally but my friend had a baby boy last year and she was told they couldn't see a nose.. she was so worried but I can confirm he has an extremely cute little button nose! They get things wrong on scans all the time, try not to worry.

It’s quite common for the baby to be in the wrong position to be able to see something. I had to have a re scan as they couldn’t see the heart properly, all was fine on the re scan. There will be times when it does flag up issues but lots of others where everything’s ok.

This is pretty common - I had to have a rescan because baby was in a tricky position and they couldn't get the measurements of her legs

I had my 20 week scan on Wednesday, too, and have to go back in 2 weeks because baby was in an awkward position. Baby was on its front so they couldn't do heart, diaphragm or thorax. Also legs clamped shut so can't see the sex!

Sonographer told me it happens all the time, so just hang in there!

I had my scan twice because my daughter just would NOT turn around. It's less likely to be 'no foot' and more likely to be 'the baby was lying in an awkward position so we could visualise it'.

It's common for them to be in awkward positions so you can't see them properly. Try not to worry, it doesn't mean anything is wrong.

It definitely happens! They couldn’t get a good view of my baby’s brain or spine, so had to wait for a rescan. All was fine, but my baby was curled up tight and in a funny position in the first 20 weeks scan.

I asked, and they said it happens all the time. Try not to worry, as if they had seen something of concern, they would have said.

They couldn't see my first dc's heart at the 20 week scan, I had to go back the week after for rescan, all was fine. Was told it's usually always due to the way the baby is laid that means sometimes they just can't get a full/clear view of everything.
