Right first off I know that all formulas are technically the same as they have to be in line with the guidelines but ..
what formula do you guys recommend?

my first was on aptamil and then switched to cow and gate (health visitor said it’s slightly thicker than aptamil and lo had reflux) (I know now it’s actually the same product 😅) which then switched to anti reflux cow and gate and then to kendamil when as they went off their milk and seemed to prefer the kendamil by alot .

my maternity hospital provides 3 brands of milk , cow and gate , aptamil and sma so if I wanted go use kendamil I’d have to pack my own and I’ll be in for 3/4 days (planned section) so would be a lot extra packing but I wonder should I? Or is the others just as good?

I used SMA for all my 4 that's what I chose when in hospital and carried on with it.

Have you checked whether Kendamil are still having any supply issues? For a while, it was a nightmare to find the premade bottles but that might have resolved. It always put me off a bit though in case it happened again.

We've used cow & gate for two babies because thats what DD1 was given in NICU. It was fine.

Edit to add - it was also the one always available in our nearest shop in case i ran out!

I think it's hard to say because every baby is so different, but Cow & Gate has always suited my DS. I was always told SMA was thicker and creamier and C&G lighter and not so thick so just goes go show we were told different things😂 As PP said Kendamil have had awful supply issues the last year and I know many people who got stuck for it and travelled miles to multiple supermarkets to try and find a tin. I steered clear for that reason as would hate to have to make a sudden change if DS had loved it.

Cow and gate for us based on the availability in the 2 shops within walking distance. I didn't want to have to be forced into the car to grab an emergency tub of formula.

They're all the same really so go for the one that's most convenient to you to start with (what's in the local shops, availability of pre made bottles etc...) and then swap if that doesn't suit baby.

kendamil is like getting hold of rocking horse manure - good lucky driving round 4 supermarkets to find a stock of the stuff

I used SMA because my mother chose that for me 50 years ago

Topseyt123 · 06/02/2025 17:40

All three of mine had SMA.

DD3 did need pre-term baby milk for a few weeks because she was born 5 weeks early and initially had some difficulty maintaining her body temperature. It was a Cow and Gate one, I think and twice as expensive as all of the usual ones (£18 per tub!!). Once she had got to her original due date and attained a good weight (she over 9lb by then) I just put her onto SMA like her sisters had had and that was that.

We use Hipp after trying SMA, Aptamil and Aptamil comfort
He literally changed overnight!
