Hi all, I’m just intrigued to hear what your first signs of labour were?

Im currently just over 37 weeks & have had constant period like pains and lower back ache this morning. Wondering if this could be a sign things are starting?

A mucus plug

Strokethefurrywall · 06/02/2025 12:05

I woke at 5am with diarrhea and then vomiting. OBGYN said my body was clear itself and sure enough waters broke at 11.30, and baby arrived at 4pm.

Water gushing out of me like an absolute waterfall 😂 at least there was no ambiguity! Straight to hospital for a 24 hour labour... I'll never forget that moment!

Waters breaking in the car

I'd had on and off tightening/cramps for a couple of days before. On the day, i woke up to my mucus plug and sporadic contractions, went to my midwife appt at 4 and she said I was 4cm so she wasn't going to give me a sweep lol. Went to hospital at 8 that evening and baby was born at 12 xx

First very noticeable thing was my waters breaking. There was a lot. But in hindsight, that night I had some very mild cramping, which I put down to normal pregnancy symptoms at that stage. I was 8 days early with my first so just didn't think it might be things starting!

With my first it was sudden massive unmistakable contractions that continued back to back, followed rather swiftly by a baby coming out so no doubt there.

HeadUnicorn · 06/02/2025 12:29

I woke up and I had what I thought were braxton hicks. However, they kept coming every 4 mins so after about 3 I knew I was in labour. Plus I was 40 weeks.

Straight into contractions for my first two. My mucus plug popped for my third. She was born 6 hrs later.

Waters broke

Five days before my due date, I woke up with an unmistakable contraction at 3am, then again at 5am. I lost my plug about 11am and the contractions got closer together and more regular. It was a long day, the little so and so didn't arrive until after midnight the following morning.

Sagittarius25 · 06/02/2025 14:15

woke at 4am with something having just 'changed and felt different' went back to sleep fine, 10/11am that morning then started contractions

Lower back pain all night!! Was on all fours!

heroinechic · 06/02/2025 19:01

Mine started with lower back pain! I was 37+2 and my DH took me out to lunch to celebrate my last day at work before maternity leave. I joked then that it might be an early Labour sign. After I logged off we set up the next to me crib & Moses basket just in case.

Later that evening, I started to notice that the lower back pain wasn't constant anymore... it was coming and going fairly regularly. It was very mild, and went on for almost 24 hours before my waters went and I lost my MP. That's when everything ramped up and I realised I was definitely in labour and it wasn't just braxton hicks. Baby was born shortly after at 37+4! X

Thought I'd leaked a bit of wee around 3am, but it kept coming and after soaking through a few pads I went to get checked out at the hospital. Kept thinking I had hunger pains but they were contractions 😂 only way I could tell they were contractions and not hunger was that I was hooked up to a monitor! Swiftly in for my C-section after that!
