Yolk Sac but no fetal pole

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone had the same and went on to having a successful outcome? Me and DH have been trying for 3 years and to my surprise I found myself testing positive this month!!

I went for a private scan yesterday as my periods range between 28-31 days and before when I did track my ovulation I was ovulating a bit later so I couldn’t really pin point exactly how many weeks I was but I thought I was roughly 6 weeks 5 days.

Had my scan today both transabdominal and vaginal and only a yolk sac was visible, they measured me at 6 weeks 1 day and said to come back next week as it may of been too early. Just riddled with anxiety after this as we have tried for so long and finally got our positive just hoping we see that fetal pole and a heartbeat next week ❤️

Hey. Me and DH were trying for 4 years and finally got our positive. I also have irregular cycle lengths and thought I was 6 weeks and a few days but when I went for a scan I was actually only 4 weeks and nothing at all could be seen. I went back at 5+6 and there was a yolk sac and gestational sac , no fetal pole.

I went back at 6+4 and fetal pole and heartbeat was present. It's litterally matters of days and everything can change. Everything's so small atm too which makes it that little harder to get everything accurate. I'm 36+4 with this pregnancy and my baby boys just woken me up playing boxing with my belly button!😆

It could well be fine and your dates aren't hugely off..it's also normal to measure a few days behind then baby catches up as that happened to me a few times in the earlier days too. Try to relax and have faith and I hope your next scan brings all your wishes true!🤞🏽🤍

@anonny55 aww congratulations! So happy to hear of your positive outcome! I’m really hoping it goes the same with me and I was just early going for my scan. But can’t help counting down the days till my next scan!

I had this. Thought I was minimum 6.3 based on conception date, went in and they measured my sac as being 6.0 days size with a yolk sac and no fetal pole. Had to wait two weeks and they when I went back all was well and I was measuring 8.3 as per my original estimate. Hope you get the same OP.

This happened with our first. They said we were too early or it wasn’t viable, but we had fertility treatment so we thought it was all over as knew our dates! She’s now 3 though so it’s true - a matter of days really does make all the difference with early scans.

I know it was a long time ago but I had an early scan at 6 weeks after trying for ages..

I too had irregular periods..
I had a big bleed.

There was an empty sac.. nothing to see.

She's 31 yrs old and pregnant with my 2nd grandchild.
I still remember the despair but hang in there..
I'm sending positive vibes and a hug.

I’m in this very situation right now!
had a bleed, likely embedding, at 4wks but they kindly did my HCG, that was all perfect. They booked me in for a scan but was 5+4, perfectly sized gestational sac and yolk sac, no fetal pole.
i was reassured and booked back in for in 2wks.
This TWW is worse than the post ovulation one! My re-scan isn’t until next Thursday. But I’m tentatively hopeful of good news.

Hi ladies, thank you all for your reassuring words! It’s definetly given me some hope and I’ve just got to stay positive!

@MrsH26 I also had two BHCG blood tests done to see if the levels were rising appropriately, mine also came back fine. I have my re-scan next Wednesday so I should be 7 weeks 1 day. Wishing you all the best for your scan also, the wait is so hard. I’m really trying not to over google everything!

When was the first day of your last period, and, what cycle day did you usually ovulate on when you were tracking it?

Hopefully it is just too early, mine was an ivf pregnancy so they do early scans to confirm but said they wouldn't do it before 7 weeks as sometimes it's too early to see anything

I had a scan at 6 weeks with DD due to previous ectopic. Same as you, yolk sac but no fetal pole. They said I was 5+5. Next time I was scanned all was fine x

I’ll be 7+4 Thursday.

We were trying for 4 years, had an early scan at what would have been 8+2 going by LMP but only measured 6+1 (I was having long and irregular cycles).
I'm now 33 weeks pregnant, hope it's a great outcome for you too

I had my scan today and was told the same @Gkb90 mine is after 2 failed transfers and this being my first positive (did ICSI) I even did a clear blue test just for reassurance before the scan and it said 3+ and I went in fir my appointment all happy and ready to see something but was told gestational sac 10.9mm, CRL (baby size)2.9mm, yolk sac visible but no FH and she said cant say for 100% certainty regarding fetal pole. I've been going down a rabbit hole. I've got an appointment next week Thursday 😫 hate this limbo. This thread has brought me some hope. Thank you all 💓

Hi everyone, thank you for all the replies :)

I had my rescan today and a fetal pole showed up on my scan however it had no heartbeat but was measuring at 6 weeks, I thought I was 6 weeks last week but that was just what my sac was measuring and the sonographer said that measurement isn’t accurate but measuring the fetal pole is. So now I’m stuck again and hoping it will progress, kind of wish my rescan was 2 weeks later and not a week may of got a better result. I have now rebooked for 2 weeks time but I was due to have my first midwife appointment next week as when I was referred I should of been 8 weeks next week so I’m not sure if I should let them know beforehand what’s happened on my scan and reschedule or still go for the appointment

Hi @Marylou62 @Sherr33 unfortunately I started spotting last night and was taken into EPU where I had a scan and found out fetus had stopped growing and no heartbeat. it’s looking like a missed miscarriage. Have to wait another 2 weeks for another scan to confirm which is horrible and have to just monitor my symptoms in the meantime x

'm so sorry to hear you are going through this, I had the exact same experience last year that you are currently going through and it was awful the constant back and forth for scans, when deep down you know what's happened. I had to have a d&c at 10 weeks they kept me going for before they confirmed that it was just the sac there which kept growing but the yolk had gone. They sent it off for analysis to confirm there was no abnormalities and that it was just unfortunate.
I've now just found out I'm pregnant again and I'm so scared the same will happen. But I have been booked in with the epu to be scanned at 6-7 wks. I've done so much googling to see how common it is that it will happen again and I don't have age on my side either.
