Early scan worries - please help

I am pregnant with my second child, and had an early abdominal scan today where the practitioner couldn't/didn't take any measurements as baby was measuring too small. There was a gestational sac and a flicker of a heartbeat but not audible and everything was barely visible.

By my dates, I should have been about 7-8 weeks, so I was expecting to see more.
I took a clear blue weeks indicator on 16th Jan which gave 2-3 weeks pregnant (meaning 4-5), so that would place me between 6+5 and 7+5 today. Based on my dates for DTD I had it as conceiving earlier.

Has anyone been in this position, what was the outcome? Thank you

I had a scan at 7 and a half weeks and measured 6 weeks with a heartbeat. I returned 2 weeks later for a repeat scan and unfortunately there was growth inconsistent with a 2 week timeframe and no heartbeat. Another scan a week later confirmed the loss.

At the time I read positive and negative outcomes from being behind. I wasn't sure of my dates but my sickness had started pretty early so the dates weren't consistent with the scan dates.

Where did you have the scan? What did they suggest as next steps?

I had a scan when I thought I was 8 weeks. The scan placed me at 7 weeks 5 days and there was a heartbeat. But I did have a transvaginal scan and that gave a clear picture. It could be because you had an abdominal scan so it was harder to see at this point.

With my son I was never behind. This time I was. Should have been 7+5 but was only measuring 6 weeks. We saw the heartbeat. It wasn't until 4 weeks later (3 days before my dating scan) that I actually bled and miscarried. I would be prepared for the worst, as it helped me to be prepared, but hopefully it isn't the case for you.

I had a transvaginal scan when I would have been 8+2 going off LMP but I was having long and irregular cycles.
I measured ou 6+1 with a flickering heartbeat.

I'm now 33 weeks pregnant.

By the time I had my 12 week dating scan I had caught up a little bit in still 10 days behind LMP date and have remained consistently so.

It was done privately. They have asked me to come back in a weeks time.

Hi. Hope you’re okay. I was just wondering if you had an update on your pregnancy scans. I too went for a scan today sure I was 6weeks 5 days to be told my baby was measuring 5weeks 3 days. I saw the heartbeat and sack, however I am worried as it’s measuring a week smaller than I’m sure I am.
as my scan was private they didn’t seem worried nor invite me back but even though I’ve seen the heartbeat I am worrying. This is my second baby and I didn’t have anything like this with my first!

Thank you

@HMD28 was this an abdominal scan?

HMD28 · 05/03/2025 09:22

Hi. No as I am so early it was via a vaginal scan

Hello, extremely sadly it was bad news for me. But I wish you all the best.
