So I'm 4 weeks and I've done another test but is it normal for it to get a little lighter compared to my test from earlier

How much lighter?
You could be more hydrated, did you use FMU for the previous test but pm test for this one?
Are they the same brand test?

If you're pregnant, you're pregnant. Honestly I'd stop testing or do a digital with FMU so you can see the words. Tests are designed to be binary - yes / no not to show progression and I've only ever come across this with MumsNet! I got so worked up with my first pregnancy about it and she's now 6 years old.

I continued to have strong positives for quite a while after a MC in the summer (when I was told to test to check for it going negative) so it didn't help predict the outcome there either.

As PP says, quite a few things can change the darkness too

I understand where you are coming from but my tests weren’t getting any stronger and I’ve just had a chemical pregnancy at 5 weeks. When I spoke to the doctor, they confirmed that my tests not getting stronger (they weren’t super faint but definitely were about half the strength of the control line) was an indication that my hcg wasn’t rising and that was confirmed with a blood test. Not saying this to scare op as everything may be fine in their case, but I read well meaning posts like yours and it gave me false hope that everything was okay when it wasn’t. Not a criticism as I understand where you are coming from but just a different perspective
