Itchy at 27 weeks

I’m itchy all over and my feet. Not so much my hands. I got tested last week and my bile levels were normal. I’m panicking because it says it can take a few weeks before bile levels rise. It isn’t severe itching and not affecting my sleep but it is noticeable. I’m due to see my midwife again next week and they gave me antihistamines to take which do help. Anyone here have itching in pregnancy?

They should have a plan to repeat your bloods again, so I would chase that up.

They didn’t mention repeating a blood test for that specifically but I’m due to get bloods taken next week anyway so they probably will but I will ask.

I had itching in all my pregnancies and a midwife said it was a reaction to the male hormones as I had all boys.

I had really bad itching at 27 weeks! It’s subdued now and not as bad after two weeks. They did my bloods for the bile ducts but they came back normal. They prescribed levenenthol moisturiser (a cream with menthol) and that really helps. If your itching continues, ask for the cream as it’s made such a difference.

I’m not sure what I’m having. Keeping gender a surprise

I had Obstetric cholestasis (OC) in my first pregnancy. It caused itching. I don’t want to scare you. But it is a serious condition and needs to be monitored the rest of your pregnancy. Def speak to your midwife on Monday. She’ll get you a blood test

Heathershimmerwinner · 01/02/2025 20:58

Sorry I just read your bloods were normal. Sorry xx

NMc16 · 01/02/2025 21:04

I’ve had a blood test which showed normal and due to see my midwife again next week

Tell your midwife about your concerns. She might want to do the bloods more regular. I only had it slightly but I still had to be monitored closely. More scans and hospital visits 3x weekly. Also I was induced at 38 weeks.
It probably isn’t. I didn’t want to scare you with my story. That’s the last thing I wanted to do. Xx

Obstetric choleostasis bloods should be repeated, even if normal the first time, especially if the symptoms persist.

When are you ur follow up bloods?

Karmakamelion · 01/02/2025 21:57

Please don't wait. If the itchiness is getting worse then I would go to triage

Chasingaces · 01/02/2025 22:14

@NMc16 report back if it is a boy!

I will definitely mention to her when I see her next week. My friend had the cholestatis which worried me but her bile levels were abnormal straight away so fingers crossed I don’t have it. She had a healthy baby girl
though

I phoned midwife again and took antihistamines which have eased it slightly. She said if the antihistamines are helping then it’s probably generalised itching. So that does make me feel
more reassured
