Is it possible to get an early scan if you've recently had a miscarriage but are now pregnant again

Not sure if this helps but I had a scan at 7 weeks at a private clinic (IVF) and they said it wasn't worth scanning before then because it was unlikely you'd see a heartbeat. I had some bleeding on the day of my booking in appointment (10 weeks) and they sent me to the EPU in the same NHS hospital for a scan.

I got a scan at 7 and a half weeks at my epu after having a miscarriage in a previous pregnancy. I was told when I had the miscarriage that I should contact the epu around 6 weeks in any future pregnancies

Oh I don't think they said anything like that to me but I will give them a call Monday thank you

It could be dependent on the area.

I didn’t get offered a scan or to contact them again in future pregnancies but I was also ok with that and willing to have a private scan to reassure myself.

My first pregnancy was a missed miscarriage, and resolved through the epu eventually. So they knew I was pregnant and miscarried. The next pregnancy they didn’t offer a scan, I booked a private one at 9 weeks to alleviate my own worries and it was all fine that time. Resulted in my son.

Pregnant for a third time, I was considering a private scan for 8.5/9 weeks again just to help know that it’s continued so far only I got intense pain and ended up seeing epu at 8 weeks instead. It all turned out ok, I’m now 28 weeks.

Most places don’t after just one miscarriage.
The earliest an EPU would scan you anyway would be 6 weeks pregnant. There’s not really much point before as you often won’t see anything and having an early scan unfortunately doesn’t stop an early miscarriage anyway. Scanning before 6 weeks could result in more anxiety if they can’t see the pregnancy yet.
You could book a private scan but again before 6 weeks it’s not really worth it. It’s normally better to do more like 7-8 weeks if you want reassurance.
Having a HCG blood test 48 hours apart to check its doubling may be more reassurance at this stage. But again I’m not sure if a GP would do this or not. You could always ask.

In my area, they won't give you an early scan except for cases where you've had an ectopic or multiple miscarriages or you start getting bleeding/ cramping.

All a very early scan will do anyway is confirm it's starting in the correct location. Prior to 6 weeks there's nothing to see, an embryo would hopefully develop as you approach 6.5/7 weeks - this all relies on you knowing your dates 100% as a day or 2 makes a huge difference at this stage.

6-8 weeks is also very high risk in pregnancy so unfortunately, even if you've had a successful early scan and maybe even see a heartbeat at 6 or 7 weeks it's bit hugely reassuring for a lot of women.

There's never any guarantees of course but if you wait till after 8 weeks then see a healthy heartbeat, the chance of the pregnancy progressing successfully from that point is something like 98%.
