Blood or poo - very anxious- TMI pic alert

Hello,

I have reached a new low but I need some logical thinkers. I am an OCD suffering mum-to-be, who lost her firstborn (DS) at 33 weeks due to a genetic mutation. I am now 37+4 days with my second daughter and struggling.

Yesterday I had some brown discharge but was reassured by triage as I had recently had a cervix check. This morning, I ran out of pads and then after an hour of wearing the underwear, found this in my knik-knacks.

TMI alert, this could be poop. For some reason, a successful wipe has become really hard to do later in pregnancy. But my head goes 'what if this is blood that dried?'. My brain then goes to placental abruption and here we are. I spoke to triage over phone, who said as long as I haven't had fresh red blood and I'm like "but what if this was fresh red blood that dried!?". I've gone down a rabbit hole of asking questions to google such as "how long does it take for blood to turn brown" or "what does blood look like on beige clothes". I found this at around 10.30 this morning and have had normal coloured discharge since.

I recieve a lot of mental health support from professionals and family. As well as medication. I know reassurence seeking is bad behaviour. But right now; I need to get through each day as this is a triggering time for me when any symptom could be baby coming. I am willing to risk online humiliation as a result.

So my question is - is this dried blood? I found it around 2 hours after first wearing underwear. All the logical thinkers out there - would you even thinking twice about this? Is this poop?

The other stuff you can spot is my normal discharge with some black fluff from my PJ bottoms.

Apologies in advance and thank you also

This might be the start of your show if you're technically full term now. I don't think it's poop based on it being more central. Poop would probably be higher up

I don’t think it’s poo. Or blood. I think it looks like a brownish mucus.

BeetyAxe · 30/01/2025 22:07

Looks like your show to me, not poo or blood.

I agree with the other posters, looks like parts of the plug coming away x

It's so teeny tiny could it have maybe come from a little nick on your skin? Things you've mentioned like placental abruption would be impossible to ignore with large amounts of blood and pain so please put that out of your mind OP. Could be a bit of show.

I have OCD and health anxiety, diagnosed and Medicated, so I know how you're feeling.

That's not poop. And it's not blood.

It looks like the light brownish mucus that will make up part of your plug, and it's dried. If you'd have caught it when it first appeared, it will have been a little wet and squishy

Reassuring seeking will keep you in the loop, but you can totally be forgiven for having a blip after what you've been through.

You never know, in the next week or so, the whole Shebang might come away and you'll be having your baby!

Good luck and try and remember, if a thought starts with "what if", it's the illness, not a reflection of what is going to happen x
