As title really, no particular need for one, am just sick of waiting, so was wondering if I could ask my midwife to do one at my 40Wk+1 appointment on Friday?!

Is a sweep painful? Awful? Does it work?

Can't imagine why not. Mine did for both DC -one at 39wks one at 40+ wks. They are not exactly pleasant, quite uncomfortable and can bit a bit painful, though they certainly did the job for both of my mine and had gone into labour within 24 hours. I think the further away you are from giving birth the more uncomfortable they are, as the cervix softens as you get ready for labour. You get a lot of period type pains afterwards.
