Any new mums going to join NCT in Stretford? Due in July

Im pregnant with my first child and have heard NCT is a great way to make friends - the course seems a little expensive but it'll be mainly to meet new parents in the area. Has anyone had experience with NCT and whether its worth it? Are there any alternatives near Stretford? I'm due this July - are there any new mums also due this summer looking to join something around Stretford/chorlton/sale?

I did NCT a few years back with my first, the course itself wasn't that useful however it was invaluable for the friendships formed. We met up a lot on mat leave, which was a godsend in the early days and a few of us still meet up regularly now. I could have been lucky though that some of us just clicked, I know other people who only made 1 long term mum friend from it.

Thanks - I think I'm a little worried about spending £270 and then it not actually being worth it, but I've definitely heard making friends with people in a similar position is what it's for - how many people were in your group? The course I'm looking at has two long Saturdays and 2 week night evenings, was this similar for you?
