Very thirsty and starving hungry is this normal?

Would it be worth getting checked out at the doctor? My last pregnancy I was incredibly thirsty all the time and all tests came back normal.

This time around I am painfully thirsty all the time again - I finish a glass of water and I feel thirsty again.

I'm also absolutely ravneous - I feel like I should be wanly picking at a lettuce leaf being newly pregnant - but even though I feel sick I am waking up in the night hungry, despite having a huge evening meal!

Can anyone reassure me/offer any advice/experiences..

i was STARVING in the first 3 months. it's normal. the thirst wasn't so bad, i don't remember that but the hunger yes definitely. lots of my friends were the same

Many pregnant women experience hunger, but I'm not so sure about the thirst you describe. It is worth speaking to your doctor about that.

I was like this through my pregnancy and instead of having 3 huge meals a day, I used to "graze" throughout the day - little and often! I was also very thirsty and could drink a 2 litre bottle of water through the night (and spend most of the night getting up to pee . I also craved orange juice and could get through about 15 of those Capri Sun juices and about 2 litres of water during the day.

My midwife didn't seem concerned when I told her so I wasn't worried about it. I did manage to lose weight through my pregnancy though which was great (I was overweight when I became pregnant)

sounds exactly like I was - ravenously hungry and so thirsty! Bizarrely towards the end of my pregnancy I had huge cravings for a cold pint of lager!!!

First 4 months of pregnancy Icouldn't get enough of ice cold water.

Cheers so much all - that's very reassuring! Am seeing the doctor next week anyway so might get tested for the thirst just in case but I'm feeling much better!

Ooohhhhh...ice cold beer in the sunshine, that would be so nice!

In the first 3 months of pregnancy I was thirsty the whole time, it's one the symptoms they don't bother telling you about. I had a water bottle glued to my hand.

check the thirst part with your gp. I ate loads whilst preg as with dd1 it stopped me feeling sick!

hattyyellow · 07/05/2008 11:04

You're right the eating does seem to stop the nausea - I do think I'm going to end up about 3000kg by the end of the week if I carry on like this though!

I thought it was just me. The only time I don't feel sick is when I'm chewing or drinking something. Which means that I have started snacking constantly. I'm scared about putting on loads of weight but I don't seem to have. Am 19 weeks pregnant and have put on nine pounds. Actually, that's quite a lot!
