Hello ladies,
I am 8 weeks pregnant and that is my first pregnancy. However, it is around 5 days now that I have not eaten anything, whatever I eat I would vomit straight away. any advice please or tips,
My GP advised me to take cyclizine but It did not help me as I have severe nausea.
Your help is appreciated.

Is the nausea better than vomitting? I think try to take the cyclizine and if that doesn't work after a week, ask for different medication?

First trimester is rough!! Feel better soon!

Sounds like hyperemesis gradivarium(sp), cyclizine is the first line medication, there is a number more, and more powerful anti-emetics you can try.

THIS IS NOT MORNING SICKNESS

Go back to your GP, ask for combination meds for HG, request a urine dip test for ketones and if necessary to refer you to A&E for monitoring and rehydration.

Join some support groups, lots of luck.

How's your urine output? If it's minimal go back to the GP. I lost 25lbs in 6 days due to hyperemesis and ended up in hospital being hydrated. I walked into the hospital feeling like I was dying and within an hour of the drip felt absolutely fine. I was given motilium in the end which worked the best.

Don't worry about food, but lots of small sips of water, every 15 minutes. I could just about tolerate McDonald's fries and Heinz tomato soup (and DD was born with hair the same colour 😉)

I am with you!

Im now 11 and a half weeks and just slowly coming out of four weeks of hell where I was vomiting multiple times a day and struggling to keep food down.

I was given cyclizine but it just didn’t work for me. So after a week I contacted my GP and was given xonvea and it has been soooo much better. The first two days I was on it I was still sick once (better than the 6/7 times a day I’d become accustomed to!) and from day three onwards, touchwood, I’ve not been sick again. Ring your GP and ask for it!

Calculate a PUQE score on yourself. Its a great tool Midwives and Doctors use to plan your care. Moderate or severe you could consider presenting to triage. Hope you get the support you need.

I'm having that bit with water. I'm not vomiting but it just goes straight through me, so. I am having to drink constantly to stop my throat sticking together. My lips are really dry and cracking. I read the most basic food to have when you are ill is clear soup with only stock in it

Moonshower · 28/01/2025 17:47

Rules with this is eat what ever you want; want a McDonald’s every day eat it. Want full sugar coke have it.

Go back to the GP and ask for Xonvea (it’s another first line med but has less side effects) if they can’t then promethazine. Make sure they dip your urine too.

Sounds like HG. If cyclizine doesn't work, go back to GP! Might be worth calling 111 or even going A&E as if you are dehydrated you will need to have IV.
There are lots of videos on YouTube of mums that had HG during pregnancy, these help with some support and very good advice. Try your best to drink electrolyte drinks if you can! Hope you are ok.
