Due date later than expected?

Hi all

Just wanting any other experiences with this - I’d calculated my EDD as 5 September, based on the day I ovulated plus the Clearblue How Many Weeks tests I took each week for the first three weeks.

We had our first scan today, an early one, and thought I was 8w1d. When I had my scan, the baby is healthy, we heard a strong heartbeat and the sonographer dated my pregnancy at 7w2d, with an EDD of 11 September - has anyone else experienced something similar? I had a miscarriage in 2023 with my first pregnancy and it’s made me a bit panicky and paranoid, as it’s taken us almost two years to fall pregnant again. I’m worried that baby is smaller than it should be and can’t really shake the fear!

My cycle has been irregular and usually longer than it should be; but surely that would mean the due date was earlier rather than later?

Any experiences would be very much appreciated as I’m just a bit anxious!

Thank you!

I think a week's difference in dates is fairly normal, especially with an earlier scan - it's a tiny difference in the measurement. Seeing the heartbeat is a really good sign, so try to focus on that! I've seen lots of posts on Mumsnet from people saying their earlier scans measured behind what they were expecting, but then had caught up by the 12 week scan. Good luck!

@JC89 Oh thank you so much for replying, that’s really helped to put me at ease! Yes I’m trying to focus on the heartbeat as you say, hopefully by 12 weeks baby will have grown as expected. Thank you!

Was the early scan a private one?
This happened to me, the private scan gave me an earlier due date than I thought (it was 3 years ago now but I think it was about 5 days earlier). Then I went for my 12 week dating scan with the NHS and the official due date they gave me was 1 day out from what I expected

Mine was also measuring a week behind at that gestation, we saw a heartbeat which was reassuring and then at the 12 week scan he'd caught up and my EDD was what I had initially thought!

@Katela18 and @tangobravo Thank you so much for replying, this has really helped me to chill out and not worry so much! We shall see what 12 weeks holds, I really appreciate you sharing your experiences!

Mine was the same, baby then arrived 6 days late on what I thought his due date should have been originally.

As others have said, you'll get your official due date at your 12 week dating scan as 11-14 weeks is the most accurate time to measure.

Mine changed by 5 days from my early scans to my dating scan

Don’t count the clear blue weeks as an indicator, you will find many posts on here complaining that the weeks don’t match to that.

If your cycle was longer for that cycle then you ovulate later. Usually the second half of your cycle is the same length, so post ovulation and it’s late ovulation that makes the cycle longer. In this case you would be earlier than you think you are.

Also as people have said the accuracy can be off by days as well. So maybe it’s a case that you ovulated 3 days later than a typical cycle and also the accuracy is putting you 3 days behind? Only a guess of course. You heard/saw a heartbeat which is positive.

With my son I measured ovulation and an early scan at 9+2 put me back 3 days. I was certain of the day as well. By the 12 week scan (it took place at 13 weeks) they had put the pregnancy ahead of my date by two days. So that’s a 5 day difference between four weeks.
