Hi everyone. I’m 8+1 week pregnant via IVF today. I had a scan when I was 7 weeks and 4 days pregnant and it showed a strong heartbeat. I had some mild cramping/twinges yesterday and this morning I’ve got this creamy yellow/lightbrown discharge. Really worried and looking for advice.

in the kindest possible way - you arent going to get answers you need here, just speculation. Spotting / discharge are very normal but really if there is any doubt in your mind you need to call triage and get baby checked over. fingers crossed for you x

Spotting and discharge can be completely normal in pregnancy - the time to worry is if the pain from the cramps gets worse and you see any red blood

Safxxx · 25/01/2025 11:20

Discharge is very normal I wouldn't worry about it.... congratulations hope you have a healthy pregnancy and a healthy full term baby ❤️

For the first couple of months I had a 'period' (brown discharge) whenever my period was due. The first time it happened I was petrified (I was about 6 weeks, I had an early scan at 7 weeks) but the second time I realised it was just my body being so locked into its monthly routine! I think it's worrying when it's bright red, although can still possibly be ok.

I think it’s just because I don’t have many symptoms either. My nipples are sensitive some days and not others. Haven’t really had nausea and sometimes have a metallic taste in my mouth

That's also very normal for symptoms to come and go, especially in the first trimester.

I’m also 8+1 today via IVF and have been having discharge like this for a while on and off. Everything I’ve read on forums says it’s normal due to hormonal changes (provided there’s no itching)
I went to the gp anyway just to double check and am waiting on results from a swab, but she wasn’t concerned. I also had a scan yesterday that showed all was ok!
I would just go to your gp to rule out infection, but I’m sure it’ll be fine

GingerFox88 · 25/01/2025 14:29

@Ru19 oh so we’re due date twins. These comments have all made me feel a little better. Thank you. I’ll see how I feel tomorrow and maybe book an appointment with my GP Monday

Doesn't look alarming to me.

I've had a lot of bleeding in both my pregnancies (been pregnant twice). One resulted in a miscarriage and the other resulted in my beautiful son. So even if this worsens in bleeding, I still wouldn't panic.

If you are at all worried go and book another scan. I had 2 babies via IVF and those first months are torture with the anxiety of a miscarriage. The mental stress alone of analysing every symptom is a lot to cope with. The cost of the extra scan is worth the peace of mind in my opinion. I think I had 4 with my first pre 12 weeks NHS scan!

If it helps I had a small bleed around 8 weeks with my first baby. What no one had told me is that this could be the placenta implanting as this can happen around this time of gestation. Please don't take this as bible, this was just what one nurse told me my circumstance could be. I had another scan and all was fine.

This doesn't look especially brown to me and looks normal. Are you on pessaries due to IVF? I had to take cyclogest until I was 8 weeks and I had really thick discharge the whole time. Additionally, cramping at this stage is definitely normal. I had period like cramping daily for the first 9-10 weeks of my IVF pregnancy. I asked about it when I had my scan at 7 weeks and they said it was caused in part by the uterus expanding but also that it can be worse in IVF pregnancies as the ovaries are going back to normal after the treatment. Also like you I had very few symptoms otherwise, no sickness or anything. But I'm now almost 21 weeks and all looked great at my 20 week scan.

Unfortunately at this early stage there really isn't anything that you can do to influence the outcome and you just have to wait it out. Do you have a date yet for your 12 week scan? I'd suggest trying to find things to do that distract you until then - read a book, go on walks, make social plans etc. I kept so busy in the first trimester with weekends away and nights out with DH.

Best of luck and try not to fixate on every symptom if you can!

Thanks for responding guys. It’s so hard with it being my first pregnancy I don’t know what to expect, so this is helpful
