Gentamicin in pregnancy

I’m 20 weeks pregnant and have been treated twice (unsuccessfully) with amoxicillin for an war infection.

The GP sent a swab to the lab and the results have come back that the bacteria doesn’t respond well to oral antibiotics. I have been prescribed Gentamicin antibiotic ear drops, which is the recommended treatment for my infection. I’m just a bit concerned as Google says there is a risk with this medication. I think the risk is greater with the injection/oral version than the drops that I’ve been prescribed, but i can’t help but worry.

I double checked with the pharmacist who basically said that it isn’t ideal to use this medication in pregnancy, but if the benefit outweighs the risk then it is prescribed.

I don’t have a choice but to take it as it’s dangerous to have an untreated infection (for myself and baby). I’m just looking for reassurance from anyone who might have been in a similar situation:)
