hi, I’m 11+3 and suffering at the moment with constipation I drink water all day and I have tried so many fruit and vegetables and nothing is working any tips on anything I might be able to try as I’m becoming very uncomfortable. Thank you.

The pharmacist said it's ok to take lactulose - might be worth a try.

Constipation is the worst. I found taking quite high doses of psyllium husk capsules (ie fibre) along with the water was a help. Prunes can also be good.

Having experienced this with both pregnancies, get yourself to the pharmacy (or GP if you prefer) and ask them for laxido. You can buy it over the counter.
I hated the taste so used to put one sachet in a glass of water (not too much water) and downed it. I only needed one sachet on a morning.
but the caveat to my method is you must drink lots of water. Throughout the day,

Very ripe pears.

Pinkelephant66 · 20/01/2025 23:02

Orange juice, coffee

Lactulose is an incredibly gentle stool softener rather than laxative. I believe it’s safe to take in pregnancy (check with pharmacy) but I took it after my emergency section and it worked a treat!

Porridge
Prunes
Pineapple

I took fibro-gel through both pregnancies for the constipation but essentially you need to find a way to up your fibre

@Hopeful4546 I've found that eating grapes every day keeps me regular. Fybogel, laxido etc made me gag so I'd throw it up minutes later 😬 And drink plenty of water!

Prune juice. Not tasty but works. Supermarkets sell it

pumpkinspicewaffles · 21/01/2025 13:02

If you warm up prune juice it tastes kind of like alcohol free mulled wine 😅 but definitely useful stuff. Lactulose is brilliant. So are pears, and chia seeds with lots of water.

I’m 17 weeks and really struggling too! Today I ate two kiwis and had a coffee and went within about half an hour!
