Potty Shot?

We had a scan to find out what DC2 is. Sonographer scanned for ages, made me wiggle about, go to the loo, star jumps and said the cord was constantly between the legs and said one minute it looks like a boy and the next a girl.

Anyway she was saying that I’d have to get booked for a rescan as sometimes 16w is too soon and then said oh he moved and said it was a boy. I currently have a boy and his potty shot was very obvious. Both DH and I are worried they’ve got it wrong when she was so uncertain then suddenly said boy. I’m afraid to buy anything. Any thoughts?

From this I'd agree it's a boy. I had doubts about my gender scan until I shared it here and people explained what to look for. Google "ultrasound hotdog and hamburger" and you'll get some good examples. I feel a lot more confident that I'm having a girl now 🥰

If you’re nothing nice to say don’t say anything. If I wanted to buy neutral clothing I wouldn’t have paid for a private scan.

I think I'd hold off buying anything specific until after the 20 week scan when you'll hopefully get confirmation

I’d say boy. It looks very much like my boy scan and nothing like my girl scan.

But surely a private scan can’t tell you anything at this stage. At my 20 week scan the sonographer could see clearly. I’m not being mean genuinely what is a potty shot.

16 weeks is usually an ok time for them to tell the sex of the baby. A potty shot is a view looking up as if the baby is sat on a potty.

Yeah that’s a boy. It’s clearly not the cord, baby must have moved just in time. It looks nothing like a girl scan, though.

It's a very clear view of the baby's male parts. And it's up to the OP if she wants to wants to find out, not you.

You've never heard of a so-called 'gender scan'? I take it you are not in the UK?

Every private company in the UK will offer them from 16 weeks, some even earlier from 14 weeks. The 'potty' shot is the still image you get which is like the view from a potty, basically showing the area between a babies legs to confirm sex.

It can be more difficult if baby is not cooperating and crossing their legs or moving too fast etc but otherwise it's entirely possible to tell whether it's make or female at this stage.
