I'm 9 weeks into my first pregnancy and they found I have a UTI (asymptomatic) during my initial check up. Now on antibiotics but a bit worried about the baby - is this common? Is it likely to cause problems?

I recurrently get them in pregnancy. No issues! That's why they dip your urine at all appointments ☺️

PrancerandDancer · 17/01/2025 22:39

Same. Caused no issues at all. Congratulations on your pregnancy 🎉

I had the worst UTI with me 1st. It was absolutely horrible but antibiotics cleared it up and it didn't affect my baby at all.

Yes very common in pregnancy unfortunately. I've had several

coldscottishmum · 17/01/2025 22:58

I had a severe UTI with DC2. 11 weeks it took to clear, 4 different 5-7 long day stays in the hospital. Gave birth to a very healthy baby who’s now keeping me awake.
UTI’s can spread rapidly. Make sure you’re having your urine dipped at each appointment. Another very common poor symptom of pregnancy. Congratulations on your pregnancy!

You’ll be okay. Apparently my booking app I also had a slight infection but no symptoms. They said if I’m asymptomatic then there’s no need for treatment. Even if there was a need for treatment, the antibiotics they prescribe are safe for babies.

@coldscottishmum hi! How did you manage to treat your uti in the end? I’ve had one since 5 weeks 1 day. I’m currently 9 weeks and 3 days, the abdominal pain and constant burning is horrific. I took action straight away and I’m now on my 3rd lot of antibiotics in the space of 4 weeks, but it will not shift, culture came back normal so need to repeat it but the dip stick I did on the same day showed protein, blood traces and high amounts of leukocytes (+3) which confirmed the infection again. I’m really struggling and worrying for my baby. Also started with lower back pain. Went to urgent care and they just gave me more antibiotics and sent me on my way, even though I had kidney concerns :(
