Spotting at 7 weeks-handhold

Does anyone have any experience of spotting at 7 weeks-both good and bad outcomes? I’ve had some very mild spotting yesterday and today, I had a scan at 6 weeks showing a heartbeat. I’ve got no pain, I am currently on progesterone due to 3 previous losses. I’m back at epu tomorrow but they weren’t able to say if they would re-scan me or not. Ive read that spotting can come from cervical changes but it’s hard to rationalise in my head! I had similar spotting with one of my losses which was a blighted ovum so never saw an embryo, but it stopped weeks before I had my d&c so I’ve no idea if it was linked to the pregnancy not being viable.

I had bleeding throughout my first trimester with my son, now 3. I think it was at its worst between 6-10 weeks, when I had a lot of bright red blood. Other times were just brown spotting. I had to wear pads and one big gush came at night when I was asleep - woke me up in a fright! It certainly doesn't mean bad news every time, and it is quite common for women to bleed in pregnancy. It's good news you have seen a heartbeat.

So sorry OP. I know it's terrifying. I had spotting with my last pregnancy in March at 7 weeks and ended up miscarrying. I then had spotting (even with some clots) at 6ish weeks and I'm now 30+2. They say that as long as you don't have spotting AND cramps, it's okay. But I totally get the worry. Sending you a hug! Keep us updated how it goes at EPAU tomorrow!

Was it red or brown? I had brown spotting between 8-10 weeks and now I’m 17 weeks and baby is going strong.
They say brown blood is old blood

I had something similar around that time, went to epau and they did an internal examination, couldn't see where it was coming from, they referred me for a scan and baby was fine, heartbeat etc, they said that being on progesterone can cause it and a cervical ectropian. If I remember rightly it then stopped.

Handhold.

I had no spitting or bleeding at all with my MMC.

I had red spotting at 10 weeks and brown spotting at 16 weeks, and all was fine with that pregnancy.

Hope all goes well x

Sorry that you're going through this, its so stressful.
I had bleeding at 11 weeks, went to EPU and it was a haematoma. So baby was fine and again at 12 week scan. I have my 20 week scan in a few weeks.
Hopefully they will be able to rescan you at the EPU and give you confirmation.

Unfortunately it’s bright red blood, but tiny amounts each time. I am on progesterone and I’ve heard it can cause spotting due to cervical irritation. That coupled with my reduction in symptoms is leading me to think the worst. I’ve had a long break from ttc since my other losses and hold all the tests available on nhs for miscarriage and also changed partners, I can’t believe I’m potentially back here again.

I had spotting and cramping around 8 weeks. It absolutely terrified me. Baby is ok and I'm no longer spotting or bleeding. A part of me wonders if its because I've been sexually active as I havent had it since.

Notsure31 · 16/01/2025 17:22

Just an update, had the scan and all is ok! Baby measuring 1 day ahead and strong heartbeat. They couldn’t see what was causing the bleeding, possibly just from cervical changes. I’m so happy and shocked x

Ahhh that's amazing 🥰🥰🥰 so happy to hear OP!

That’s great news! x

@Notsure31 how are you doing? Hope all is still going ok! I’m having the same at 6,5 but can’t be irritation from the progesterone as not using it vaginally! X

Notsure31 · 23/03/2025 11:45

Unfortunately I’ve lost my little girl due to a termination for medical reasons for a chromosome issue at 16 weeks, it wasn’t related to the spotting though, and this is the first time I’ve carried a pregnancy that far with the help of progesterone and aspirin. The spotting stopped at around 10 weeks so well before we had to TFMR, I do think it was just cervical irritation x
