Alcohol Free Red Wine

Has anyone found a good alcohol free dry full bodied red wine, or am I asking too much. It’s my birthday at the weekend, and thought I’d maybe treat myself to a bottle 😂

Following! TTC and couldn’t find any good wines last time I was pregnant. Good 0% beers but no wines.
And Happy Birthday!

What beers did you go for? Were there any ciders in the mix. I guess I could settle for either of those.

Happy birthday!! I've not tried the red as I normally go for NA fizz, but M and S are the best out of most supermarkets, and I've had good recommendations for Majestic NA wines. Sorry it's not very specific but might hopefully point you in the right direction! IMO Lidl, Aldi and Sainsbury's NA sparkling selections have been fine so you have something to pop but you wouldn't drink for its own enjoyment.

OldieButBaddie · 15/01/2025 15:17

I honestly don't think you will find one. Even the alcohol free fizz which people seem to think is good, is crap IMO. Beers and Guiness are good!

Do you like cocktails? Some of the alcohol free spirits are quite good. Amazingly Martini make a good one for £8 a bottle (on offer atm) to mix with tonic, apparently the white is good too
Martini Non-Alcoholic Vibrante Aperitivo Vermouth | Waitrose & Partners

This also good but £££ compared to the Martini one and not quite as nice IMO
Pentire Coastal Spritz Non-Alcoholic Spirit | Waitrose & Partners

They are very much spritzy sort of things though, not wine

Nosecco is pish in case you hadn't tried and were considering it! Fruit juice with a note of heartburn

Oh no, I love Nosecco! And Belle and Co non-alcoholic rose.

Never manged to find a nice red alternative, they all tasted like sickly juice!

Seachange 0% sparkling wine is nice!

Haven’t found any nice wines & I know this isn’t what you asked but I really recommend buying a bottle of Botivo, which is an AF ‘spirit’. I have it with a crodino (not sure how to spell that?) and tonic water and it has a proper cocktail taste. Or just crodino and tonic water is also very lovely!

I feel like with the AF wines it’s easy to just drink them like juice but with Botivo and Crudino etc you feel more like you’re having a proper drink because you tend to sip them

Firebrand - Little Wave is nice.

There’s a company called Big Drop that I think only does non alc beers. Lots of nice ones there. Particularly like Pine Trail.

I think Brewdog has some good ones too, but can’t remember the names.

Sorry, not too sure on ciders, but I’d imagine there are some good ones about.

Chillilounger · 15/01/2025 17:50

Kylie fizz is ok, others are meh and no good reds. Low/ no alcohol beer is good however as are the ciders if you are any something sweeter.

Would highly recommend Thomson and Scott Noughty Red Wine! I had it at Christmas and it definitely helped me to feel like I wasn't missing out. The first NA red wine I've tried that doesn't just taste like juice.

Tcsha · 15/01/2025 19:13

You’re never going to get the taste of a red with alcohol free. At best it’s like an undiluted Ribena! The alcohol gives it the bite and the acidity. Beer is good, I didn’t like the cider as I like dry cider. The best I found was alcohol free Prosecco, soda, and a splash of aperol or Campari. The alcohol was negligible and I actually enjoyed it and would only have one or two.

Came to say this! I have done extensive research on this subject and Noughty is the only one that comes close to satisfying the desire for a nice glass of red.

@Sez90 if you like beer normally, Brulo do genuinely excellent AF (AF is their specialism). I've never tasted anything bad from them. I once found their IPA on draught and I honestly couldn't tell it was AF. In fact I had to get my husband to taste test as I wasn't sure which was his beer and which was mine! It's not cheap though. Stowford Press 0.5% and Thatchers zero are very good replicas for their normal ciders too.

I haven't found any especially good red wines yet, they're all a bit too light for me. The only semi decent white I've found is Wolfblass Sauvignon which smells more authentic and is a bit more tart than other AF whites, which just taste like sweet juice to me!
