Down syndrome screening score

Hey everyone, just having a worry (might seem silly to others) but i had my screening test and my Down syndrome result came back at 1 in 270 - now this is low risk i know. But i already have a 2 year old who’s score was 1 in 5,000 so quite naturally i have panicked. 150 is the threshold for more testing so i know i won’t be able to have anything done further to check. But from people / pregnant friends i have spoke to this score is so low??? I’m only 28 usually a size 6/8 so age and weight i don’t think contributed to this score.

I am really stressed and panicking. I feel awful for even worrying but i am someone who likes to be prepared for things and uncertainty scares me. Just wondering if anyone else recently has had low scores but above threshold and been absolutely fine? Thanks!

It is random genetics from the sperm or egg...the chances are higher with age etc but anyone of any age can have a child with a genetic issue. It s nature.. so weight etc does not come into it. Tho some factors increase chances. Maybe do the nipt test to get more info?

At age 29 my score was about 970 & at age 31 it was about 270. I decided to pay for a nifty test and all was fine.

I have read about the private test i can do, but it’s around £300 here and i just can’t afford it. Just worried with it being low and my age clearly not being the main factor here

You can wait for next scans and see if any obvious physical signs or heart issues etc which would trigger further tests.
1 in 270 is very low chance. Speak to ARC .
Up to you if 300£ will settle your worries....probably ££ better spent than any private gender scans etc

@AmberM223 I would get the testing done to put your mind at ease so you can enjoy the rest of your pregnancy. I've just had mine done today, it's £250 with Window to the Womb if you have one nearby, not a huge saving but thought I'd mention xx

(I'm only 11 weeks and having it due to my age so slightly different situation).

Thank you, i will look at window to the womb but even that is just not something we could afford right now for us - which does upset me. People keep telling me i’m worrying for nothing as it’s not ‘that low’ but something in me can’t help it. Thanks everyone

Hey I'm sorry you're feeling so anxious about it. I had my 12 scan and combined screening came back as 1 in 40 for DS. I did some EXTENSIVE research and feel I've probably read about every single higher risk test out there and almost all the time the NIPT tests come back negative (it did with me too!). I know it's so hard and might be impossible not to worry but it's such a small chance ... 1 in 270 is something like 99.7% chance everything is fine! X

@magicstar2020 thank you so much for replying! I have found the money and having the nipt test today. Hoping it puts my mind at ease and i am sure it will all be ok. Just hard to convince myself! Glad yours came back negative too xx
