Late bfp convinced pregnant?!

Miracledust29 · 14/01/2025 13:42

Hi just wondering if anyone has been convinced they're pregnant but multiple bfn??

My cycles are usually anywhere between 28-35 days. I had a confirmed solid smiley opk 19th Dec dtd textbook and covered all days.

Period was due last Friday so 4 days late now. I've had quite strong cramps yesterday and today, lotiony/milky cm everytime I wipe (tmi sorry). I've had bad nausea for 3-4 days now to the point I was actually sick yesterday. My boobs are slightly itchy. I've done test after test convinced something would show but still showing bfn and still no AF 🤷🏼‍♀️ along with my taste has been off and everything tastes bland.

I have a doctor's appointment later this month anyway. Something's definitely going on but driving myself slowly mad with it all, surely by now I should show something on a test? Wondering if anyone had anything similar? I'd welcome AF at this point anyday over this wait.

I haven’t used the clear blue ovulation tests (apart from once at the very beginning). If you ovulated around 20th Dec then you are more than 4 days late it’s about 11 days late and a test should pick up hcg by that point. Maybe you didn’t ovulate then, the lh can surge and not release an egg. It’s why I used bbt to confirm ovulation. So maybe your body has recently ovulated a lot later than you expect and you’re still in the tww?

DD took 5 years TTC and a round of IVF. I always had regular 27-29 day cycles but nature is a cruel beast and occasionally would throw in an anomaly 30 plus day cycles and I'd be convinced this was it and I'd have this symptom and that symptom but always BFN. Eventually had successful IVF and a spontaneous conception when DD was 18 months and both times the only clue I was pregnant was a BFP. It was a late period that made me test with DS but only because I had a clinic appointment booked that needed to be on a certain cycle day so needed to start my period and thought POAS would make that happen as it nearly always had done in the past.

Miracledust29 · 14/01/2025 13:59

I thought once ovulation happened it was usually 14 days from that point AF arrives? So since I ovulated later assumed it would push back when I was due on, I could be wrong and need to take a biology lesson 🤣
Funny you do say that though because I did have one random day of a positive opk last Wednesday, didn't think much of it at the time as it was near my supposed AF coming on and I know mine do go dark just before but does make me start to wonder wether I actually ovulated then instead 🤔 I guess I'll just have to wait even longer! This TTC business is much harder than lead to believe in school!

Thanks for your reply. You're right I very may well not be but this was the first month I wasn't actually symptom spotting as we're starting a big renovation on the house. It's just the last 2 days the sickness has been so overwhelming and the cramps/backache have been bad along with the fact that I'm late. I'm trying to put it to one side and leave it another week. Like I say I have a doctor's appointment booked later this month anyway.

Me , I absolutely knew I was pregnant with my second child but remember a lot of negative tests - I can't remember how many weeks it took to show after period was due, I think about two weeks but he's ten now!

Miracledust29 · 14/01/2025 14:36

Interesting thanks for the response good to know it can happen. I'm very realistic in the fact if it's bfn it's bfn but I just have too much stuff going on that really makes me question that this time is different. Only time will tell I guess and I'm just going to have to play the waiting game a bit longer. Will keep this updated..

Not sure how old you are OP but I've had regular, clockwork like cycles my entire life until I hit late 30's/40 then they went haywire (which I put down to peri).

I had a lot of late periods and even missed some altogether and would be convinced I was pregnant because I had so many 'pregnancy' symptoms but I never was.

I am now 42 and almost 30 weeks pregnant so it still can and does happen. The month I did fall pregnant I didn't get a BFP until cd56 and I now know I would have been about 5 weeks pregnant then.

Miracledust29 · 14/01/2025 15:35

Oh congrats amazing news. Almost there now, good luck for your last few weeks!
Yeah I'm 35 so they've definitely moved from 30 days to more like 35 days sometimes slightly more or less. I had a chemical last cycle. Then I was convinced this cycle with all the symptoms I've had the last few days and the fact I had strong ovulation pain the day after I got my positive opk.....something I've always seen people talk about on here but never had it myself. Just trying to not put too much pressure on myself now. Just strange that I had one random blazingly positive opk last week so perhaps I never did ovulate the first time around like I thought. All I know is it feels like the longest cycle! 🤦🏼‍♀️Did you get light lines before your bfp or was it one day just pretty obvious since you were quite far along?

My period was two weeks late before I got a positive test. I wasn’t testing daily though but I did around when my period was due.

Thank you.

I hadn't tested before day 56 as I'd been down that road so many times and got a BFN, I just spotted testing.
No idea what day I would have first seen a thin line. By the time I tested it was a very thick dye stealer.
I only actually tested because I was in the middle of an all inclusive holiday and completely went off food, alcohol and coffee...... then one morning had to run off to throw up at breakfast and I just knew. Sent DH out to find a pharmacy and tested that day.

It's so frustrating when you've been regular for so long and I do think our bodies start playing cruel tricks on us too. I hope you get your BFP soon, good luck

Mooey89 · 14/01/2025 20:55

I have PCOS and my cycles can be a bit all over the place.

I had similar to you back in Oct except that I did have two very faint positive pregnancy tests, super faint. My period ended up coming 10 days later so I suspect it was a chemical.

you could also have ovulated late which would mean it is too early to pick up on a test. If AF isn’t here in a few days take another test.

for what it’s worth, after the ?chemical in Oct we decided that we would wait and try later this year.
We weren’t careful enough at Christmas and now here I am 5 weeks pregnant, so please don’t lose hope. X

Miracledust29 · 14/01/2025 21:28

Hey aww that's great news congrats! ☺️
Yes my chemical was very similar I had 3 days of faint positives after being late but obvious enough but with no progression. I think then within a day or 2 I had this very light pink bleed and within 2 hours it was so much heavier than normal and lasted almost a week far longer than my usual Af. That's why I was so sure we'd got it right this time as I heard you're more fertile after, I'd tracked ovulation, DTD over the correct days but as you say you just never know maybe it was actually later. I don't temp as I'm a terrible sleeper and work shifts so don't think it would be accurate for me unfortunately. We'll see, fingers crossed I'll be like you shortly. Good luck with it all xx

I have had this and was convinced I must be pregnant. Never got even a hint of a bfp and my period did arrive about 10 days later than normal. That was very unusual for me, never happened before or since.

It was heartbreaking and I feel for you going through the same.

I would say try to guard your heart a little. Sometimes these stories have a positive outcome, but many times it's just a late period.

Miracledust29 · 15/01/2025 20:49

Thanks for your reply @etonmessedup you're right and I think I've accepted at this point it's far likely to be a late or even anovulatory cycle. I mentioned my bad nausea which actually turns out to be a sickness bug! I had very bad cramps the other day which leads me to believe perhaps I hadn't ovulated at all and it decided to finally happen way later than I thought. I've been so busy with work and a renovation on my house, perhaps i have just been run down without realising it x

Just an update. Boobs have not stopped hurting and I had more cm. Posted a pic. Top test was taken Saturday night stark negative. Middle was yesterday. Had a thin blue line straight away but looked so thin and broken. Today had cramps so popped out to grab a 6 day early which is bottom one. I'm aware clear blue can be a nightmare but seems a bit of coincidence to have 2 back to back and within 3 minutes 🤷🏼‍♀️ it does look blue in person but whenever I take a pic it looks more grey.

Hope you don't mind me jumping on here....I'm 17dpo. I'm tracking BBT, so know my ovulation date. Did a test yesterday 16dpo and a clear negative. This morning, I had a slight temperature drop, sore boobs still and have had cramps today, so was sure it was definitely coming and even took some ibuprofen, but still no sign of AF. (Keep checking my CM every time I go to the toilet 🙈😂) I'll do another test tomorrow if it's still a no show. We're you pregnant?

Miracledust29 · 17/08/2025 10:51

Hi, sorry to hear, I know how disheartening it is when ttc! I believe that month I had a chemical as I continued to get tests like that and then had a very heavy painful period and test went negative. I then had 2 miscarriages the following months. However I took a month out and am now almost 18 weeks pregnant so I do believe your body tries to make a go at it a few times before! (Not everyone of course) What I will say is the 3 times I definitely was pregnant i had a faint line by 10 dpo so I'm pretty sure you would have had something by now? Have you tried ovulation sticks? I found i wasn't ovulating until around day 19 xx

WannaBeKeptWifey · 17/08/2025 14:17

@Miracledust29 thanks so much for replying ❤️ and I'm so sorry to hear you had miscarriages after that 😪 Like I say, I definitely know when I've ovulated as I'm tracking my BBT. Also had a progesterone blood test and it's actually on the higher side 🤷‍♀️ I finally started today, so it was just a long luteal phase of 17 days! I have endometriosis and adenomyosis and there's also male factor issues too, so it's looking more and more like IVF could be our only chance. We've been trying 2.5 years and no BFP. I'm so pleased for you that you're 18 weeks though ❤️ I hope it all goes well 🙏

Miracledust29 · 17/08/2025 18:21

Ah that's a shame but sometimes it's a blessing when you do finally come on just so you can get on with trying again isn't it! Ohh bless you I had a laparoscopy to check for endo last year. I've actually got a friend with both endo and adenomyosis.....tried conceiving for ages like you, she's not pregnant on her first round of IVF! So don't give up hope. They teach you in school that by even looking at a man you'll get pregnant but it's not until you start trying you realise how bloody difficult it is! 😂🤦🏼‍♀️ Hopefully it happens for you soon 💕💕xxx

*she's now pregnant from her first round of IVF 😂

OP posts:
WannaBeKeptWifey · 17/08/2025 20:21

I know right 🤦‍♀️ I'm still waiting for surgery over a year later. That gives me hope! Our area only gives one round and I don't think we'll be able to afford to go privately if it doesn't work the first time around. I'm still holding out for a miraculous natural conception though as the thought of going through IVF sounds absolutely horrific.
