I'm earlier on in my pregnancy but I've been on this medication for years. When I found out I was pregnant my doctor said it was safe for the baby and that I can continue using it throughout. As far as I'm aware 40mg a day is a safe amount but if you're concerned about it effecting your appetite or the baby then you could always request a review

@Crump3tCrav1ngs thank you for the word. How much of nexium did u take during pregnancy? My doctor is not concerned but its me having negative thoughts. I have heard moms taking omeprazole but no esomoprzole. That's why s bit confused and sad. Over thinking I know😭
After years of fighting infertility made it here.

They are essentially the same medication. A lot of things in nature and science are chiral. This means they are identical but are mirror images of one another. Take a look at your hands. Omperazole and esomperazole are the same drug but omperazole has both "hands" but esomperazole only has the active "hand"

I was on omperazole through out my last trimester. If it's any reassurance about the dose .... My 4 year has been on 40mg a day for the last year! She's been on omperazole since 8 weeks old due to reflux.

@Superscientist ohh.. Do babies get this avid reflux from mother taking acid reflux medicines? Thank you for your reply. I was very worried

Nope, sorry that wasn't the intention of my post. About 40% of babies have some form of reflux during their first few months! The valve at the top of the stomach is quite weak and being on a liquid diet the stomach contents comes up easily. For most it's not a problem but quite a few need medication in the short term and tiny number need it long term. My daughter is in that group unfortunately. She has food allergies which often goes hand in hand with reflux. Never has my reflux medication been linked to her reflux. I do have a strong family history but reflux in pregnancy is unrelated as it has a doing cause - baby squishing stomach rather than issues with the top of the stomach.
