Carseat to fit hire cars?

Hi

My husband and I are expecting our first child in July and need to buy a carseat. Safety is obviously our greatest priority with a carseat so cost for is not really an issue.

We live in London and like a lot of people here don't own a car. However, we do need to buy a carseat in order to bring our baby home; we also hire cars several times a year to go on holiday and to visit friends and family. I know that all carseats don't fit all cars so I am at a loss as to how to decide which carseat to buy. A maxicosi would fit the buggy we're buying but I don't know whether that would be the best make for our situation - do they fit most cars? does anyone have a list of the cars it does fit? Any advice would be appreciated.

The Britax website here has a FitFinder that let's you see which cars all of it's carseats fit. So you could find a seat that fits all or most of the cars that you tend to hire. We have ended up buying three Britax seats and been really happy with all of them.

Hi

We are in a similar situation - we are getting a Mountain buggy and the Maxicosi is the car seat that fits on it. The baby shop suggested we got a base - not an isofix one but one that fits using seatbelt. This way it can fit in cars with shorter seatbelts and seat can be clipped on. It is the only way to be sure it will fit in any car.

Thank you all for your advice.

oopsacoconut, can you remember the name/model of the base you were advised to buy?
