Spotting at 5 weeks? Previous chemical

Hi everyone, I am currently 5 wks 3 days I had a chemical at 5 wks 1 day back in November. This pregnancy I've had some cramps all along, some darting/stabbing pains etc. Dr didn't seem concerned with this as long as there was no bleeding. Unfortunately on Friday night I started to get some light brown discharge when wiping, then it turned bright pink, there was 3 instances on Friday. Then Saturday morning first thing one instance, and once again Saturday night. Nothing since then. My boobs are still sore, I got a "dye stealer" on a test yesterday morning, I ovulated on 21st Dec so think its for sure too late to be implantation bleeding. Called a&e who told me it could be a miscarraige or it could be normal, BUT EPU not open until Monday so nothing they can do. Overall its been about 5 instances of the brown/pink discharge always only when wiping after peeing.
My previous chemical the bleeding started quickly, i had period cramps and all pregnancy symptoms went immediately after bleeding started, my tests also never got properly dark.

Anyone had anything similar to this? I don't know what to think and feel sick with worry, I also know that it may be too early for EPU to do a scan/see anything on a scan so I may have no answers at all for a week or so. X

I’m actually in a really similar situation but a couple of weeks ahead of you now! I had a chemical in mid November and then found out I was pregnant again a couple of weeks before Christmas - so didn’t have a proper period in between. Spotting started for me around the same time as you - it started really light and then got a bit heavier/darker - some days it filled half a liner over a whole day but never enough to need a pad. After about 4 days of the spotting I had a scan at the EPU and they found a sac and yolk - I was measuring a few days behind my expected dates but they said all fine! I continued spotting so went for a follow up scan a week later and they found the embryo had grown and had a heartbeat! Still measuring a few days behind my expected dates but said it was all fine! The spotting had become a lot lighter by then and I think was tailing off anyway but during that trip to EPU they gave me progesterone which has worked so far (a few instances of very light spotting but nothing like it was a couple of weeks ago!).

I’m still not out of the woods and feeling pretty anxious about my scan next week - but it helped me to know that the baby can still grow and develop despite the spotting! Fingers crossed you can get a scan at the EPU in the next few days - try and get a referral from your GP if you can. The sonographers couldn’t work out where my bleeding came from so I did wonder whether this bleeding might have been connected to the previous chemical - but no idea really!!

Hope you are doing okay and try not to worry if you can as it may be completely fine - just sorry you’re going through this too as it is so hard!

I had spotting at around 5/6 weeks with my second. I rang the GP who was excellent, got me a scan at EPU within a couple of days which showed a little heartbeat which we weren't expecting so early on. It went on for a couple of weeks, never heavier than spotting but still alarming all the same. We never got an explanation but she is almost 3 now.
Not everyone gets a positive outcome like we did but wanted you to know it's possible.
Obviously you're not going to stop stressing so all I'll say is try and rest up as best you can and get yourself seen at EPU tomorrow if possible.
I will keep everything crossed for you

Thank you so much, I really appreciate the reassurance. I am having a scan in the morning after a long long day today, but i could be too early for the scan to tell anything anyway, but time will tell and we will see. Do you know how far along you were when you had your first scan? I am only going to be 5 wks 4 days so possibly too early to see anything x

No problem, it’s such a hard thing to be going through so soon after the previous loss, I really struggled (and still am struggling tbh!). When I went for my first scan I thought I was 5w6d but they thought it was probably a few days before that (so maybe 5w2d) although didn’t confirm exactly - all they could see was the yolk sac and very start of the embryo. You might be able to see that at 5w4d! I went back exactly one week later and the embryo measured 6w2d with a heartbeat - they said the growth in that week was a good sign despite measuring a bit smaller than I thought! As I didn’t have a proper period before this pregnancy, they have said dating is a bit harder…

Really hope you get good news tomorrow and do keep in touch if you feel able X

Thank you so much xxx I really struggled with the loss too, and like that am still struggling, I wasn't prepared for how difficult this ttc journey would be xx I've got my hcg bloods back so they are over 10,000 obviously it doesn't tell much until I get the next set taken in 48hrs but glad it seems to be a good reading i think xx thank you again and wishing you every bit of luck 🥰
