20 week scan nerves

I have my 20 week scan for my little boy at the end of the week and I’m feeling anxious about it. Anyone else waiting for the anomaly scan in the next week/two?

Mine is next Wednesday so about ten days and I am so anxious. I feel like my anxiety lessened after my last two scans but then it just comes back again waiting for the next. I go from talking so positively about her being here in June and then when there’s a scan approaching my language changes to more negative and ‘hopefully’. I just want to be able to enjoy the pregnancy and feel confident 😭

I find myself doing the same. I’ve been encouraged to buy bits in the January sales but I just can’t incase there’s something wrong at the scan. This will be my 8th scan and I had the NHS combined screening plus a private NIPT but my last scan was 3 weeks ago.

Are you feeling movement yet! I feel him kick away now which is lovely but just concerned they’ll find something awful.

Wishing everyone the best! If you've had a good scan already at ca. 12 weeks, this one should just be confirmation that your baby is on track. With DD2, I happened to have her 20 week scan on Christmas Eve. It was fine and she is lovely.
Best wishes to you all.

I've got my 20 week scan at the end of the week. Everything was ok at my 16 week private scan but I'm just so nervous about this one. I'm not showing much yet (I look like I've had a big lunch and I haven't got a slim stomach to start with) but I can feel small kicks/a rolling motion at point in the day but not yet with a distinct pattern. It's my first so maybe it's too early for that anyway.

We haven't started buying anything yet as I'm scared to jinx it. We have started clearing out the box room though.

Thank you! I’m glad you had a good scan! Unfortunately I work in a similar field so know way too much of what can be detected at 20 weeks vs 17 weeks and how devastating it can be so don’t think that helps. Fingers crossed everything is fine, I know the highest risk condition is 0.2% chance so very low

My 20 week scan is in 12 days and I'm also feeling anxious about it. It's my first pregnancy and I'm 38, so I've been conscious all the way through that my age is a risk factor. All looked well at 12 weeks and despite my age, my combined screening put me at the lowest risk of 1:5000 for all 3 conditions, so there haven't been any signs so far to suggest I should be concerned. I think my anxieties come from having multiple friends who learned of serious developmental problems at this point in pregnancy, 2 of which resulted in TFMR and 1 of whom had the baby but they now have complex needs. I hope that I can start to get excited once the scan is out the way, because I'm still currently avoiding any planning and discussion about life with a baby! I'm enjoying being pregnant (I've been lucky to have an easy ride so far) and seeing my bump grow, and I've started to feel movement which I love. Just scared it's all going to be taken away after coming so far!

Wishing everyone luck who's in the same boat as me and it's comforting to know I'm not the only one feeling this way!

I’m also feeling movement. It was little bubbles and now it’s more like actual movements but I don’t think I could say it’s ‘kicks’ yet. I was sure I felt her roll over once but then again I have no clue what that feels like! 😂

im 18 weeks tomorrow so still early for kicks tbf. My private scan at 16 weeks also looked fine so im praying that just means everything is fine next week but like you i know so many things could show up when looked at more in depth 😭 the anxiety it truly horrible and I know some women are probably just like ‘you’re being so stupid’ but its like a reflex (especially after a second trimester Loss) i cannot help the way my brain decides to work.

Less than 48 hours until my scan now. Excited to see him but feeling so nervous

Eeeek I am so jealous. I have six days it can’t come quick enough 😭

I hope you have a lovely experience and feel reassured OP, I'm sure you will.

COS2102 · 16/01/2025 11:51

I have mine in 8 days and the fact I'm feeling movement at the minute is helping my nerves so much! My old bereavement midwife used to tell me 'this is as good as it's going to get' basically meaning that worrying doesn't change anything. We heard the heart beat last week and I've felt a lot of movement over the past couple of days so I don't need to let worrying enter my brain. I can just enjoy what I have now.

I'm certainly not buying anything in the sales or really thinking much at all about buying anything but I will start in the next month or two. My cousin had her baby at 27 weeks and was totally unprepared so I want to make sure I'm a little prepared because my head now tells me this baby could arrive any time from 27 weeks haha

CharlieAndMoose · 16/01/2025 12:43

@COS2102 we must be on the same day as mine is also 8 days away. Wishing you luck!

Thank you! I really hope so. He’s lovely and active, can feel his kicks from the outside now but just know something awful could be found

My scan was all good thankfully!

That's great @MiracleOctopus! One more week to go for me. I'm taking comfort from the fact I'm feeling movement every day now, even some kicking at times! I hope you can relax now and start to get prepared x
