Mouldy travel system

We purchased a second hand travel system off Facebook marketplace a couple of months ago for our baby that's due in April and it's gone mouldy in storage 😔

Will this be ok once it's been washed or will the spores have penetrated too deep into the fabric?

I think this looks beyond redemption.

Car seats, along with mattresses, are the things that are recommended that you buy new for babies anyway. Unless it comes from a friend or family member you won't know if it's already been involved in a collision.

Personally I just wouldn’t use that, sorry. Plus a secondhand car seat is the one thing it’s recommended not to but secondhand.I gave mine to a friend but she knew it had not been in an accident.

Edit to agree about mattresses.

Thanks, I did have a feeling it would be beyond saving but it's such a shame as it's a nice system. The carry cot and seat unit have sadly suffered the same fate so I think we'll have to look for another.

This happened to ours that was in the loft... it's definitely not safe to use any more. So annoying as I was going to give mine to a friend.

The recommendation is to store it on top of a wardrobe so there's free flowing air around it, which is what ive now done with the other car seat and bassinet. I covered with a cotton sheet to protect from dust.

Unfortunately the safety of the car seat is compromised as the straps will be damaged by the mould. The loft isn't the best storage place for these type of things as the air doesn't flow and the temperature changes quite a lot.
