Any help??? Tests coming back with two different answers

Hello! I’m new to this and just wanted to post asking for advice. I have been having these weird stomach and back pains recently, i’ve just felt different but putting down to over exerting myself and not taking time to feel better.

For peace of mind, I did a pregnancy test on January 10th, it would have been a month since conception date, I never miss pills as I’m on the combined contraceptive pill so rarely get a period. On the test, there was a super faint positive and I’m talking almost feeling like I was imagining it. So I took another on January 11th again to assure myself I was imagining, but again faint with a positive line, but this one was more visible even though I still don’t quite believe it. Both of these tests were done first thing in the morning, just two cheap tests.

I bought a clear blue and tested again but this one is definitely negative- just wanted to ask advice/opinions as I feel like i’m losing my mind. Is the positive just a control line?

Please let me know your thoughts as I don’t really know what to do and haven’t been in this position before- Thank you! x

They are likely evaporation lines... as in my experience when obsessed with trying to find a line you will see one as there must be a faint strip under that reacts to HCG so if we look long enough it can appear. Clear blue is more sensitive
.. unless you are secretly hoping it is? But for me looks negative.

SErunner · 11/01/2025 06:12

I don't think I'd count any of those as positive to be honest. Leave it a few days and test again.

Poppins2016 · 11/01/2025 06:22

The pink dye tests are usually more sensitive than clear blue (you can check the packaging to compare), which might be why they're showing different results (if you are pregnant).

The faint lines on your pink dye tests may be early positives (I can see them on your tests, and I had similar faint lines with my pregnancies) but it's also possible they're evaporation lines. I'd test again in a day or two with FMU (first morning urine) and see what it looks like.

Clear blue never failed for me positive everytime I wanted it to be. From your pics all I'm seeing are the evap lines

CosmicLove · 11/01/2025 08:47

I think if it had been a month since conception date, you'd be getting a very clear strong positive by now. But fingers crossed for the outcome you want OP. The uncertainty is always hard xx

Hi Everyone!

Firstly, thank you so much for your thoughts/support/advice - I decided to give it a week and take another, thoughts?? still faint but definitely more noticeable than last time, is this still classed as an evap line or is this positive? would be a FTM so understandably freaking out, my partner and I are also no longer together and don’t think he’d take this news well, so wanted to be sure before saying anything - just wanted to say I appreciate everyone’s help, I don’t really have anyone to talk to about this so this site and all of you have helped me greatly, many thanks X

  • Edit: I’ve noticed the photos are low quality, not sure what I can do to fix that but the line on the new test is pinkish colour, slightly thick in size compared to prev one if that helps !:-)

Hi OP, you mentioned in your first post that conception date would've been about a month before that, so early/mid December. If that's still correct, I'm afraid I think the line is too faint at this stage to mean a positive / healthy pregnancy.

Is there any chance that this could be a new pregnancy conceived more recently? Like in the last 2 weeks or so? If I was in your shoes, I'd call my GP or better yet EPU if you can reach them directly in your area, and explain the situation. They may be happy to offer an early scan or hcg bloods to give you more answers.

Controversial but I'd probably do a Clear Blue digital too so that I'd see Pregnant or Not Pregnant, and not have to worry about interpreting lines which could be possible evaps or indents.

Good luck xx

Hi! Thank you for your response- I think on Monday when the GP is open i’ll book in, just worried as I have drank and smoked since and wouldn’t want to intentionally do that if I was positive!! Think I’m just stressing over nothing😅xx - also I know google is a nightmare but twins runs in my exes family, and I saw that tests can come faint with them- so much conflicting info everywhere!! Think Doctors is my best bet, thank you for your help!(: xx

Don't go to the GP until you've used a reliable pregnancy test OP! All that will happen is that they will ask you to pee on their test, which is much less sensitive than yours so it will be negative, and they will say you're not pregnant. What a waste of your time and theirs.

Get a Clear Blue digital test and use first morning urine. It will say 'pregnant' or 'not pregnant' and is a reliable result.

Ladyluckinred · 19/01/2025 09:17

I definitely see something in the second tests you’ve put up, but it looks very very early if you’re pregnant, around two weeks. Wait a few days, if you’re pregnant, your hcg levels will increase.

Re twins, I think the overwhelming opinion is more hcg is produced with twin pregnancies, although I appreciate the internet is a minefield.

Hope you get the result you want and keep us updated x

CosmicLove · 19/01/2025 10:55

@somethingforpeace during my twin pregnancy, my hcg levels were much higher than the two singleton pregnancies I've had, so it's much more likely you'd be having very strong clear positives if it were twins. Also what I've read in the past is that having twins on father's side makes no difference in increasing chances of twins:

I definitely think a Clear Blue digital first thing in the morning is your best bet to find out what's going on for sure xx

CosmicLove · 22/01/2025 17:22

How are you getting on OP? Hope things are going the way you want xx
