Hcg levels drop

So I'm ment to be 6weeks 2 days, had bleeding so called early pregnancy they gave me a scan couldn't see anything. So I had bloods took and hcg was 195 they repeated bloods 48 hrs later and it has dropped to 160. They want to take more bloods as it's only dropped by 18% what should I be expecting can anyone help?

Did EPU give you any indication of what they'd expect? I feel like they'll be the best people to advise. Are those definitely the right numbers? I'm not sure if there are different scales?

At 6 weeks I would expect over 1000 (up to 56000) mIU/ml and dropping to likely be an indication that something is wrong I'm afraid - you'd ideally be looking for doubling over a 48 hrs period.

But.. they are the best people to advise and it sounds like they are getting you back in? X

Hello Jlr16, I had my HCG levels checked at the start of my third pregnancy for various reasons and mine initially went up over 48 hours but nowhere near doubled. It then started to drop rapidly every 48 hours until it was almost 0 after a week and my period started, ie, it turned out to be (another) Chemical. Dropping is usually not a good sign unfortunately. In some cases, a pregnancy starts as a twin pregnancy and the twin gets reabsorbed, which can cause a temporary drop in HCG level. However, in a multiple pregnancy the HCG would likely be higher go start with. I very much hope things are different for you and we are all very different so there is always hope but do be prepared and sending hugs.
