Hi

Perhaps this is a bit silly post.. But I feel like I have to vent somewhere.
I know they recommend limiting coffee intake for pregnant women to about 2 cups a day. And I do that.
However, this morning, I really had the coffee urge. So I made myself a cup of coffee, which was a bit stronger than I used to. And about 3 hours later, at work, I had about half a small cup filtercoffee again, to keep myself from not falling a sleep, lol.
I couldnt drink coffee for the whole first trimester, so now I really feel I need my cuppa again:) I really crave it:(
But today, I was quite worried, since I felt that it has a stronger effect on me.
Maybe there should be more hours between my 2 cups of coffee?
Feel a bit silly for writing this, though.

You'll be fine.

If you want to drink coffee, you can. Get some decaf.

Sarahdenmark · 10/01/2025 07:40

Yes, I think I should look into some decaf:)

Lidl decaff ground coffee is nice if this is any help!

garciacherry · 10/01/2025 08:25

You're fine, OP.

When they make these recommendations it doesn't mean that going slightly over it on one occasion is going to hurt your baby.

If that was a possibility then they would be telling you not to have caffeine at all.

It's a general recommendation to not have too much caffeine.

I didn't change my tea and coffee intake through pregnancy and I drank 20 cups a day easy. Little one is healthy and happy toddler now so don't think you need to worry 😀

Baby will be fine, don't worry

Would really recommend the book 'expecting better' by Emily Oster.. she talks through the research on caffeine in pregnancy, might help you make an informed decision

Agree with this. A good book

I definitely had more than the recommended amount of caffeine most days in my second pregnancy. I love my coffee and felt exhausted most of the time having a toddler as well so I felt like I needed it! DC2 is a happy, healthy baby 💛 as a one off, it will most definitely be fine.
