Prochlorperazine?

I started these tablets a few days ago, I’m taking 3 a day & they do seem to help in the day but in the evening the sickness comes back bad or if I eat slightly too much 😩

Has anyone else been prescribed any other anti sickness tablets that have worked I'm thinking of going back to the doctors & asking for an alternative….

Hi OP, glad to hear they're helping during the day. It's very normal to feel more sick later in the day as it's often made much worse by tiredness. Meds are a great help, but usually won't be perfect. Lots of women need a combination of 2 or more when sickness is particularly had. Something like cylizene maybe. I wouldn't recommend stopping Prochlorperazine after just a few days as it can take time to get working. Hope you're feeling much better soon.

It didn't work for me but I know others who found it did so it's very individual.

I'm on Xoneva which works but does add to the tiredness so it's been a bit of a trade-off!

Superscientist · 09/01/2025 14:31

For me it didn't help much neither did cyclizine on its own but I had metoclopramide and cyclizine together and that was better

AmberM223 · 09/01/2025 14:34

I take it alongside metochlopramide 3x a day too. Helps so much more!

@remaininghopeful23 awwww, thank you! Yeah that makes sense, I’m gonna try to suggest something else in addition to these then….

I found the pregnancy sickness support charity amazing, I WhatsApp'd with one of their volunteers and she was so empathetic and helpful

30STMK · 09/01/2025 15:30

@Superscientist I tried cyclizone in my last pregnancy & that didn’t help that’s why I’ve been prescribed these this time. Must be because I’m having them on their own…..

@AmberM223 so your taking 3 of each tablet a day? Seems a lot but if it helps think I’d try anything at this point…. lol

@30STMK No so i take 2 of the prochlorperazine, but tbf compared to the new tablet this one doesn’t do much so some days i only take 1. I only really notice a difference when j take the other.
Some people take up to 10 tablets a day to manage it, aslong as you don’t take too many of the same tablet in a day they are all mostly fine to take in conjunction with each other, and consultants at the hospital with usually always give you a combo to take as taking one will very very rarely work for HG.

I take two at night just before bed and one in the day.. they tell you to start on the two at night for a few days and add one in the morning if needed.. then if definitely needed add another in the afternoon.

The main 'issue' is logistical id say.. you have to take them in a 3 HR window, two hours after you last ate and an hour before you eat again. Now as a normal person that sounds super easy.. as a pregnant person 3 hrs of not eating is a lifetime! I have to make sure I eat properly before otherwise I start to feel a bit faint.

But.. they have properly taken the edge off. I'm not 100% but I can cope day to day... I'm doing about 80% of my work hours.. basically I can manage whereas before I was basically just in bed / bathroom the whole time.

This is my third pregnancy.. my first was with my ex husband 6 years ago and it wasn't anywhere near this bad, I had sort of queasiness but not this! So my current partner (we've been together 4 years now) is amazing, but this is clearly his fault ;)

@AmberM223 hopefully if I get another tablet to go alongside these it will work better for me too then ☺️

@Harriet1989 maybe if I tried that with these tablets it could help. Well actually think my best bet is to get some other tablets too like others have suggested.

definitely his fault! 😂 that’s what it must be for me I’ve got a 6 year old daughter & it was bad but I could manage it if I kept myself full but not this time round. Mad how each pregnancy is different!

how far along are you?

First line of treatment is one antiemetic. Second line is two.
My gp took previous pregnancies into account. In my last pregnancy I went straight on to two as one hadn't been that effective in my last pregnancy.
It's probably time to go back and see what else is on offer
