I posted this on conception but haven't had a response. Would be very grateful for any advice please:

It's our first cycle trying and I had a few questions about OPKs and ovulation for those of you with more experience please.

I have a 27 day cycle and I usually ovulate around day 15. I started testing with OPKs from CD12. On CD12 it was negative but CD13 and CD14 were both positive and then CD15 was negative in the morning (the second line was lighter but definitely there so the instructions say to count that as negative) and then negative again in the afternoon, this time with no second line at all.

I imagine I therefore ovulated on day 14. We had sex on CD9, CD13 and CD14 (DH was working away otherwise would have done more).

My questions are whether the OPKs on CD15 mean that I likely ovulated late on CD14 and if so, do you think not having sex on CD15 is an issue? I'm not sure whether having sex just after ovulation is as important as before? Any advice would be very welcome 🤗

It’s really easy to overthink all this when TTC but as long as you know what day you ovulated that’s what counts. Sperm can live up to 5 days and just hang around waiting for an egg (I’ve got pregnant from sex 5 days pre ovulation before), so doing it on CD13 and 14 is good timing.

you can also do everything right every month and have it not work so don’t get too disheartened if this month isn’t the one.

good luck!

OPKs don't confirm that you have ovulated. They only show that you have had the LH surge that is usually (but not always) followed by ovulation.
Ovulation is usually within 36 hours of your peak.

Some women have more than one peak, for example if they have PCOS, as their body tries to ovulate.
Al things being equal you likely ovulated day 13 or 14. The best days to have sex for conception are one and two days before ovulation (because sperm need to be in position and waiting for the egg for several hours to be able to fertilise it), but sperm can live in the reproductive tract and fertilise an egg for up to five days, so it could be that sex on CD9 did the trick for you if you ovulated on CD13 for example.
If you ovulated CD13 or CD14, sex on CD15 would be too late for conception.

If you ovulated CD15 then the sperm would have been ready and waiting from CD13 and 14.

Best thing to do is to have sex every 2-3 days from about CD8 onwards.

I wouldn't worry about not dtd on CD15. You'll be covered by CD13 and 14. I'm currently Nearly 6 weeks pregnant. I got a positive opk cycle day 18 in the morning and completely negative by the evening but did the deed the evening before and I conceived. I know bodies are different but that's my experience

I conceived this time from having sex the day before the positive ovulation test, eg two days before ovulation occured. I didn’t have sex again for quite a few days so that’s the last time that would have counted. I usually ovulate the day after the peak and tracked with temperature to confirm it. (With my son I had sex on ovulation day - eg the day after peak).

You have definitely covered it, assuming you did ovulate.

Thanks for this. So do you think two consecutive days of positive OPKs is indicative of two different LH surges? Or the same one?

@Butterflygirl23 thank you and congratulations! I hope everything goes as smoothly as it can x

It's so daunting finally starting to try and I've tried to do everything right but also know it can take a while and that's completely normal

Thanks. I believe I did ovulate as my temp dropped CD14 and rose again CD15. Also had ewcm on CD11-13

It'll be the same surge. Once you detected your peak there is no need to keep peeing on sticks, unless you have something like PCOS and so tend to have more than one LH surge.

I don't have PCOS. OK, noted, thank you. So if I did it the once I would assume CD14 was ovulation day? Sorry for all the questions, just new to this!

H im looking for advice, would you say Im about to ovulate? Im so confused! Im only on cycle day 12. I normally get a positive ovulation test on cycle day 14. Im 38 years old and since two back to back miscarriages the beginning of the year Im struggling to catch my ovulation. Also Im having multiple lh surges in a month, usually two a month. I beginning to wonder if I’m ovulating at all! I thought maybe I’ll ovulate in a couple of days but my tests are going down after 24 hours and all my egg white discharge has stopped today but had loads yesterday. Maybe I’ve already ovulated? Help lol x

Some advice please
