Hello, I'm 34 years old and have never been pregnant before. My partner and I started trying for a baby 2 months ago!

I've been tracking my ovulation using test strips (never got a really dark positive line but it did increase then decrease, so maybe I just missed the peak ovulation window?)

My period is due in 5 days time. Since Thursday, which would have been 3 weeks since the start of my last period, I have been feeling extremely tired.
I'm sleeping for 9 hours a night which is not like me at all, I'm waking up exhausted. I've been falling asleep on the couch unintentionally for 2/3 hours at a time. I've never felt like this before, even when I've been ill!
I've also had a lot of gas, and today I've had a couple of dizzy spells with very slight nausea.

I know it's too early to take a pregnancy test, but I took one anyway and it was negative.

Is it likely that I would have pregnancy symptoms this early on? Most things I read online say they wouldn't start until around 5 weeks.

Thanks in advance for any insight xx

It's possible but could also be nothing connected to pregnancy, like a mild viral illness maybe. Difficult though it is, wait until you expect your period then test again.

I found out at 4 weeks and I only tested because my period was late, however my fatigue and gas was very noticeable in the weeks before the test and me and my partner used to joke about it. I started constantly belching and the need for gaviscon after every meal at least two weeks before I tested! Don’t want to get your hopes up but it was definitely a sign for me! Good luck x

I wouldn't get your hopes up just yet OP. It could be something or just a coincidence.

Personally, I've never had any symptoms that early. I spent many months symptom spotting and convincing myself this was THE month because i had so many pregnancy symptoms then it would turn out not to be. The two times I have actually been pregnant I've felt no different to any normal month - Both times i'd literally counted myself out that month because it just felt like AF was about to arrive at any given moment, then she never did.
I think our bodies and minds can play some cruel tricks on us when TTC.

Good luck

Thank you for the replies. I know I am definitely looking for symptoms, but I genuinely have never felt this way before and don't tend to get many symptoms before my period either.

I will just need to be patient! xx

It might just be that you're looking for symptoms or it might be it, but I wouldn't get your hopes too high just in case. Me and my husband had been trying for a year and I ended up stop testing around my period and just waiting and seeing because it was more stressful, until last month. I always always spot a week before my period and if we were intimate I would bleed at this time too, but I had no spotting no bleeding at all. So I took a test 5 days before my period was due and it was negative. I took another test 3 days later, because still no blood whatsoever which was totally out of the ordinary for me, and I had a faint line show up for the very first time. Maybe test again in a few days? Wishing you all the best!

It’s hard to say as every pregnancy is different. I tested one day after my period was late and it was positive. Symptoms beforehand- defo had some light implantation bleeding once when I wiped which was not usual for me before a period. I recall feeling extremely tired the once after usual chores. I also started feeling nauseous and beltching but I just put this down to not liking my food. Weirdly (sorry for the extra info here) I recall having an upset stomach/ go for a no.2 often which can happen due to a hormonal shifts. Lastly I developed oral thrush early on.

LittleMermaidRose · 06/01/2025 10:00

Yeah maybe I'm getting in my head about it xx

It’s possible. When I was pregnant I noticed a few things 8 days post ovulation - gas like pains, darker nipples, different discharge and very vivid dreams.

I started feeling very slightly sick from about 10 days post ovulation.

The first time I was pregnant I started feeling really tired and almost fell asleep on the way home after work and had to take a nap every day. I also had craving for a certain kind of food on daily basis. That pregnancy didn't last and next time I didn't have cravings or tiredness same way as I had been taking conception and pregnancy vitamins for years by then.

When I was 4 weeks I was incredibly drained and tired and alcohol made me vomit and have a severe headache (only had 1 can of cider) which kind of made me suspicious to then test… so it is possible

Lulu89x · 06/01/2025 16:49

I found out at 3 weeks (based off my LMP) which was around 10DPO. The symptoms were what prompted me to take a pregnancy test. I was not TTC AT ALL.. but the cramps, the heartburn, the horrendous sleep and the sore nipples could not be ignored!

LittleMermaidRose · 06/01/2025 17:00

I should be 10dpo today, but weirdly I seem to have regained all my energy today. I'll give it another couple of days and test again if my period doesn't come, but I'm now thinking that maybe it was all in my head xx
