Scan at 14 weeks. Sex and Names

I had a scan today and when the sonographer was looking at the legs he said "Oh I have some clue about the sex now, but of course I can't say anything yet"

That means he saw a little penis and it's a boy right? What other clues are there?

And if so, I'm so stuck for names.

  • Older brother is Kit.
I like the name Rowan but everything else isn't really sticking. Any ideas welcome. Irish/English family with double barrel surname if that matters! Sometimes I think some names don't go with double barrel surnames.

That’s a bit of a crappy thing to say. I had a 13/14 week scan and the sonographer said they couldn’t promise anything but gave a good guess at the sex for us. What a tease!!

itwasmadeofelm · 04/01/2025 19:09

Or.... he didn't see a penis and knows that it's a girl? Wink

Our sonographer said at our 20 week scan (after we had said we didn't want to know the sex) "you've got a little kicking footballer there!! Oh....er..... or a ballerina"

Shockingly baby was a boy!

I like Bertie, Theo, Lucas. If you like Rowan, how about Oakley?

Blue2020 · 04/01/2025 19:11

I like rowan.

It might not be a boy.

Rupert, Sebastian, Hamish or Felix? Baby girl would have been one of those names and we have a double barrelled name

Disco2022 · 04/01/2025 19:50

That is the good thing about Rowan it goes with girl or boy. I dont have preference on the sex I just have a fair few girls names that would be good, but I haven't found a boys one I like as much as I did my son's yet!

Totally up to you but I always thought Rowan was the female version and Roan was the male version of the name? I know a Rowan (female) and a Roan (male) who told me this but I don't see why it would matter in today's age! I liked Theo for a boy also. Leo also.

@Disco2022 I had a sonographer say the same thing to me and like u I presumed oh its a definitely a boy but nope she's a girl 💓 x

I like Rowan for a girl or boy. How about Oisín for a boy? Would go nicely with a double-barrelled name, is a nod to the Irish and pairs nicely with Kit.
